Ancient Fragments
Unlock the Lost Voices of Antiquity
Ancient Fragments by Isaac Preston Cory is a remarkable gateway into the minds and mythologies of the ancient world. First published in 1832, this timeless collection gathers rare and often elusive remnants of texts from the ancient Near East, presenting them in a way that brings forgotten civilizations back to life.
From the shadowy philosophies of the Phoenicians and the mysterious cosmologies of the Chaldeans to the cryptic Oracles of Zoroaster and the mystical writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus and Pythagoras, Cory assembles a mosaic of ancient thought that shaped the spiritual and intellectual foundations of the Western world.
Explore fragments from figures such as Berossus, Megasthenes, and Josephus—voices that speak across time of creation myths, divine hierarchies, and sacred doctrines. Whether you're drawn to ancient theology, comparative mythology, or the esoteric traditions of early mystics, Ancient Fragments offers a fascinating glimpse into how ancient cultures understood the universe, the gods, and humanity's place among them.
This is not just a reference work—it's an invitation to wander through the mysteries of a world long gone, yet eerily familiar.

About the Author

Isaac Preston Cory (1802–1842) was a British antiquarian and classical scholar best known for his efforts to preserve and translate rare fragments of ancient literature. Educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Cory developed a deep interest in the early civilizations of the Near East and the philosophical traditions of antiquity. His seminal work, Ancient Fragments, first published in 1832, gathered surviving pieces of ancient writings that would otherwise be lost to time, offering invaluable insight into pre-Hellenic theology, mythology, and cosmology. Cory’s meticulous scholarship and passion for the esoteric have made his work a foundational text for students of ancient religion and comparative mythology.
