    A visit to ancient Greece

A charming book! The author takes the reader back in time to ancient Greece when the Athenian Empire was at its height of power and prestige and gives the reader a stimulating tour of the Athenian environs as tho one was touring the city. Many sites are explained in detail as tho one were actually visiting the site 2,500 years ago. Pictures are painted of the Parthenon, for example, as tho one were viewing it before the ravages of time and man have left it a mere shell. If one has visited Greece or it one is planning on visiting Athens this book, although it purportedly is for the tourist of 415 b.c. would be a most helpful tourist addition. while it is speculation, I believe that it is probably true that this little book might be more helpful and provide more information than many tourist books just recently published. Great read!

    more from this reviewer

A new approach to learning some history

I found this book quite unique in itself. It's written like a travel book but gives you all the best of Greece from a historical aspect. It actually kept me interested because of the casual approach. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Gives you a good picture of what it was really like

A quick read that gives you a very good idea of what the culture must have really been like. I have several books on Greek culture, but this gave many little known glimpses into how the Greeks actually saw what was happening around them. I got it for around $8 and it was a very good buy, especially for my son who wants to study anthropology.
