Gr 4-8-- While there are many other titles that share the focus, age level, and general coverage of this volume, it's hard to beat the attractiveness of the layout and the beauty of the illustrations found here. With one exception, each of the 28 sections consists of a 2-page spread heavy on illustration and short on text. Coverage includes history, religion, people and customs, occupations and recreation, warfare, etc. More and better organized report information on ancient Greece can be found in most general encyclopedias, but none will include the numerous illustrations that are a feast for the eye and give a visual understanding of the art, architecture, and artifacts of this period. Given the usual curricular focus and student interest on ancient Greece, this book is a worthwhile purchase, even for collections that already include other titles on the topic. --Rosie Peasley, Empire Union School District, Modesto, CA
