This is the first book I have read in this series, but it was such a delight that I’m going to backtrack and read the other books. The series takes place in California during the early 1920s--when Prohibition was in full swing. Daisy Gumm Majesty helps support her family--Ma, Pa, Aunt Vi and dachshund Spike--by doing spiritual readings for the privileged class. While Daisy knows she can't really commune with the Other Side, her engaging and caring ways make her highly successful at her profession. In Ancient Spirits, Daisy has just lost her beloved young husband to suicide--he’d been damaged by mustard gas during WWI and could no longer bear the pain. She is so deeply depressed that her kind and fabulously wealthy friend, Harold, persuades her to travel to Egypt with him, where he hopes she’ll recover from her doldrums. But things go horribly awry there, and Daisy and Harold find themselves in deadly danger. The ending truly warms the heart, as Daisy finds herself returning to the land of the living, with the possibility of a sweet romance brightening her future.

Good for a light read. Slower then most of her books.

I have read several of these books, and found them to be an easy ¿read. The characters are growing somewhat though shallow for the most part. Wouldn't make a good book discession book, but rather one to sit by the fire and enjoy with a cup of tea or glass of wine.

I have found all of the Daisy Gumm Majesty Mysteries to be a fun, wholesome escape. I like historical novels and this one satisfies. Similar to the other books in the series, there is a lot of repetition about what happened in previous installments, but I still enjoy getting away to 1920's Pasadena (and Egypt).
