And All That Could Have Been [Explicit Lyrics]

Barnes & Noble - David Sprague
While Nine Inch Nails are often hailed for their live shows, the praise is usually focused less on the music and more on Trent Reznor's sheer intensity and his willingness to mount a serious spectacle. This 16-song document of NIN's sold-out "Fragility v2.0" 2000 U.S. tour should silence the skeptics. And All That Could Have Been captures the aforementioned elements, but more important, it shows a heart and immediacy not usually associated with Reznor's Mac-happy sound. There's abundant negative energy in the opening salvo of "Terrible Lie" cleaved by a jarring Robin Finck guitar solo, "March of the Pigs," and "Piggy." This 16-song document of NIN's sold-out "Fragility v2.0" 2000 U.S. tour should silence the skeptics. And All That Could Have Been captures the aforementioned elements, but more important, it shows a heart and immediacy not usually associated with Reznor's Mac-happy sound. There's abundant negative energy in the opening salvo of "Terrible Lie" cleaved by a jarring Robin Finck guitar solo, "March of the Pigs," and "Piggy." Reznor and company pull a sonic switcheroo on the back-to-back gut-spillers "The Frail" and "The Wretched." In contrast to their earliest performances, NIN take more chances in concert, twisting and stretching familiar songs. While not altered to the point of indulgence, "Head like a Hole" and "Closer" are punctuated with moments that could make listeners stop banging their heads long enough to scratch them for a moment. And All That Could Have Been isn't Trent Reznor Unplugged -- far from it -- but it is, at last, Trent Reznor Exposed.

A deluxe version with bonus disc is also available.
All Music Guide - Bradley Torreano
Most of the songs found on All That Could Have Been are similar to the album versions found on The Fragile, with rougher vocals and crowd noise to change things up. The few songs from Pretty Hate Machine ("Terrible Lie," "Sin," and "Head Like a Hole") get the best treatment, changed around to include better guitar work and more experimental samples that compliment the songs nicely. Nine Inch Nails are a powerful live force, and fans of Trent Reznor may enjoy this live album very much.

    Just like you imagined

This is the cd that got me into NIN. Lead to believe this was a greatest hits and not a live album, I was shocked to find out that some of the songs on this album I personally like BETTER than the originals. You can tell Reznor poors his heart and soul into his concerts and most of the songs have subtle changes that make the songs edgier. This is a wonderful place to start if you are just getting into NIN.

    NIN are back !

NIN are back with their first live cd..taken from their fragile tour the deluxe cd contains ''still'' which has the title track ''and all that could have been'' which is one of the best tracks NIN have recorded since The downward sprial's ''closer.'' also included in ''still'' are deconstructed performances of ''Something I can never have'' and ''The day the world went away''.

    NIN!

Simply put, ''And All That Could Have Been'' is awesome! Listening to the cd is like reliving the concert w/o the crowd to get in your way. Even the slightest NIN fan should have this cd.

    NIN at its best

Trent and the boys of nin are back, and bigger than ever with their hard hitting, yet smooth ''and all that could have been''. This album will take you along for the ride. all the twists and turns included. The little details, the unknowns that often happen during a live concert that are left in this cd/dvd/vhs give it a flavor of reality. It is amazing. a must have!

Amazing performance - true NIN experience

The sound is encapturing, the performance pulls you in...all around excellent portrait of a Nine Inch Nails show. the sound quality is exceptional for a live recording. The performances highlight the contrast between the brutal and the quiet moments. This is definitely a must have. The bonus disc is also a must...Trent and co. at his most subtle and undermining moments.
