Overview

Welcome to Fortune's Island, where the only rule is to follow your heart.

Love is an extravagance Darcy Williams can't afford. She prefers the simple life, which includes waitressing at The Love Shack and avoiding temptation. But when a forbidden part of her past steps off the ferry, her safe, guarded existence is turned upside down.

Kincaid Foster has never gotten over his first love. When he sees the wild, beautiful blonde again, dancing her way around The Love Shack, the memories of Darcy's soft skin, gentle touch, and heated kisses come rushing back. As the privileged son of a wealthy family, Kincaid was too young to stand up to his overbearing father when he and Darcy were together. Now, he's back on the island--free of the family shackles--and the chiseled, big-time lawyer wants a second chance.

But, Darcy made a promise to keep a secret from Kincaid--a secret that is now a six-year-old girl who looks just like her daddy. If Kincaid finds out about their daughter, Darcy could lose everything. But, she can't resist the man who stole her heart all those years ago. And it doesn't take long before both of them realize that anything can happen on a hot summer night.

A perfect summer beach read! A small New England beach town, a second chance at romance, an adorable little girl, and a rescue dog--what more could you need? And Then Forever is the first in Ms. Jump's new Fortune's Island series, and it's definitely a series I'll be reading more from. I love the setting and the characters we've met so far--our hero and heroine, Kincaid and Darcy, as well as Kincaid's sister Abby, Darcy's family-by-choice Jillian, Whit, Gracie, Carter, and Nona (not to mention Emma and Mooch) are well-drawn and true to life, people you'd definitely want to hang out with on the beach or grab a burger with at the Love Shack. Altogether this was a great summer vacation read--whether you were at the beach, or just wished you were. My only complaint with book one is that I would have liked to have seen Kincaid, Darcy, and Emma spend more time together as a family--the book's over almost as soon as they're all really together for the first time with all parties knowing who they are to each other. Hopefully future books in the series will give us plenty of glimpses into their HEA to make up for it :) Rating: 4 stars / B+ I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book that I have read of Shirley's and the first book in Fortune Island series. I think Shirley does a great job of developing the characters so you truly feel like you know who they are and why they have turned out a certain way. In addition, she does a great job of setting the scene of the book in the small town feel of Fortune Island. She did such a great job that I wish this was a real town so that I could live there! In regards to the storyline I think Shirley did a good job of progressing the story. Each event that occurred in the story made sense and the story progressed at a steady rate not getting derailed by non important story lines. If there was anything that I found could have been changed or improved would have been the introduction of Jill's character. I felt like she spent too much time on the story than she should have being that this book was supposed to be about Kincaid and Darcy. I understood eventually why she was doing it as she was going to be writing her story next. However, I think it just didn't fit well in this particular story. Jill's story could have been introduced more generally and not dug into as much. All in all I think this was a great book and a good start to the series. I am very interested in reading more of this series and author.

Seven years ago, Kincaid Foster was on the brink of stepping in the life that was his due and hid duty as a privileged son of a wealthy family and even though his torrid relationship with Darcy Williams gave him reason to have second thoughts, ultimately he followed the path that had been laid out for him - an Ivy league college and a high-powered career. But not before leaving Darcy with something to remember him by. Now Kincaid has had enough of his life as a high-priced lawyer and has returned to Fortune Island for some respite. Seeing Darcy again and the overwhelming memories of his time with her make him long for a second chance with her. Darcy was always aware that, coming from the wrong side of the tracks, her relationship with Kincaid had an expiration date and when threatened with the loss of her unborn child, she let him walk away without any explanation on the condition that she kept her pregnancy a secret from him. Now he's back and the island is too small to keep her secret, but she's going to try! AND THEN FOREVER is a really great start to the series, an enjoyable second chance story with very likable characters, a lovely setting and very little drama. Both Kincaid and Darcy made the choices that made sense at the time they made them and without much bargaining power, they really couldn't have done things differently. Now they have another chance to make their relationship work, but only if they can get past their issues and manage the burden of Kincaid's responsibility to his family. By the way, I think his father was very OTT in his quest to prevent Kincaid from giving up his future for Darcy and I really wish he got to pay somehow for his role in keeping them apart. The legend behind the dollar bills on the wall of the bar adds a cute element to the story. I usually don't care much about book covers, but I really like this one and it makes me crave a day at the beach very badly! And Then Forever by Shirley Jump is the 1st book in her new Fortune’s Island series. I have read and enjoyed reading Shirley Jump novels, and looked forward to reading the start of this new series. I am happy to say that this was a fun, quick and enjoyable read. Darcy Williams is our heroine and a wonderful one at that. We learn early on that Darcy was not happy as a child, as her mother never really paid much attention to her. As soon as she was old enough, she left home for the nearby Fortune’s Island, and lived life to the fullest, since she was totally independent and fun loving. Darcy, who has been a waitress at The Love Shack bar and restaurant from the start, is perfectly happy doing what she does, not to mention the owners and friends have become her family. Kincaid Foster, who comes from a wealthy family, fell in love with Darcy years ago, and out of nowhere, she wrote him to say goodbye, since he was only there for the summer. Now 7 years later, he returns to the island with his pregnant sister. When he visits The Love Shack, he sees Darcy, and the feelings he felt before arisee quickly. She is shocked to see him, and does her best to avoid him. Kincaid never understood why she pushed him away, but what he doesn’t know is Darcy has a secret. Though Darcy does her best to keep her distance, the romance slowly begins to heat up again. Darcy fears for Kincaid to find out her secret, and of course, when at the beach he discovers she has a child now 6 years old. Kincaid automatically can see the resemblance to both him and Darcy, and knows Emma is his. Darcy tries to explain that he was going away to college, and his father expected him to join the firm in the future. She did not want to ruin his life. What she doesn’t tell him is that his father forced her to take some money to take care of the child, with threats to take away Emma, if she ever told Kincaid. What follows is a sweet romance between Kincaid and Darcy, and his happiness to be with both her and Emma. He realizes that being on Fortune’s Island makes him happy and content. He considers giving up his wealthy life in NY, and staying with Darcy and Emma, whom he has fallen hard for. But there still some secrets that will threaten their relationship. Will Kincaid understand why Darcy was afraid to tell him about his father, and forgive her? The secondary characters are very good, and a few we expect to have stories told about them in future books. We get some snippets from Kincaid’s sister, Abby and Darcy’s friend, Jill. There will be more fun to come on Fortune’s Island. Shirley Jump has written a sweet and emotional story in And Then Forever, and I look forward to the next book.

A second chance romance for two very different people from different “sides of the track” is the backbone of this story. The first I have read from this author, this was a god introduction and a fun start to a series. Darcy is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, she’s always struggled to find her own place in the world, learning early that her family is never going to be as supportive as she would have hoped. When she first met Kincaid years ago, she made the difficult decision to send him off to his life without looking back, their paths were too different. But an unexpected pregnancy left her with more than she had planned for. To her credit, Darcy was a wonderful character: determined, self-reliant and able to move forward confidently, even though she doesn’t always feel it. Kincaid returned to Fortune Island after a six year absence, his last vacation there brought him Darcy, but he left for school and his own life. It took a bit for me to like Kincaid: he’s very supportive of his sister, but his willingness to let others get into his head and their renewing relationship. COMMUNICATION people – one of the most frustrating things about watching a romance develop is the lack of communication when asking a question is so simple (yet so scary in reality). Slowly this romance rekindled as Kincaid actually started to pay attention to his own feelings and the connection that he and Darcy shared, and the insets with their daughter were clever and sweet. With plenty of moments from secondary characters that added to the story, this relationship has a happy for now, with plenty of questions that I hope will be answered in the next book. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Darcy Williams made some hard decisions seven years ago that resulted in her breaking off her relationship with Kincaid Foster without explanation. Darcy believed that she was doing the right thing, although it broke her heart. Now a single mom raising her daughter on Fortune's Island, she is stunned to see Kincaid once again on the island. Kincaid unknowingly puts everything Darcy values at risk, and she is hopeful that her secret will remain uncovered. Against what she knows is best, she can't resist the feelings that remain between she and Kincaid. I loved this 2nd chance romance between two great characters. I loved both Darcy and Kincaid, and Emma was precious and added a great deal to the story. The story kept me interested throughout the book, and Fortune's Island was a wonderful setting. I felt very badly for Foster about the secret Darcy kept from him for years, but I understood her reasoning. I liked the way Foster didn't hold it against her, and I thought that Darcy was a good and fiercely protective mother. The relationship and chemistry between Darcy and Foster was great! I'm looking forward to more in this series. Thanks to the author and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Darcy William's walked away from the love of her life six years ago because she thought it was the best thing to do at the time. Kincaid Foster was a privileged islander home for the summer and she was a newly independent young woman working as a waitress in a small island restaurant, struggling to find her place in the world. After Darcy discovers their summer romance has left her pregnant she is hit with the dilemma of trying to decide if she should tell Kincaid about the baby or end their relationship and let him return to college and follow the path to success that his father has laid out for him and keep the news from him. But before she really has a chance to consider all of her options his father shows up on her doorstep and makes her a offer she really can't afford refuse. So after being bullied into keeping the baby a secret Darcy ends things with Kincaid and sends him packing back to school. She is then left to raise their daughter on her own, never expecting to see Kincaid again, so when he waltzes into the Love Shack she is met with the surprise of her life... This was my first experience with this author's work, and I have to say that I absolutely loved this book, so much so, I plan to keep up with the additional installments in the series! This book had my attention from the first page and didn't let go until the very end! It had everything a good romance book should have and then some!!! I highly recommend you make a visit to Fortune's Island and meet these amazing characters...they will have you smiling the whole way through, and maybe blushing a little too!! This book was recommended to me and not having read a Shirley Jump novel before, I was curious. The author does not disappoint. This is a wonderful story of a first love reunited, with a delightful twist of an unknown daughter. The author creates wonderful suspense by not introducing the "secret" daughter for a good bit of time, enabling us to get to know Darcy and Kincaid as the individuals, and former lovers that they are, without introducing the complexity of a sweet, bubbly six year old child. I love how Kincaid struggles with wanting, and desperating NEEDING his father's love, and wanting the life and love that he wants for himself, and the fact that these are disparate objectives. He realized as a teen that he couldn't get one while having the other, and after being pushed away from Darcy, he leaves, seeking for his father's love and approval by achieving the goals his father has set for him. When he returns to the island, he is confronted with old friends, old loves, and old feelings, and his deeply held desires for his life come bubbling back up to the surface. And as Kincaid finds himself caring for an old, lost dog and nurturing a fresh life for "Mooch", he is also nurturing the deeply-held desires for his life and does some soul-searching of his own. In true romance novel fashion, the author throws a few twists and turns at the couple, inevitably forcing them apart until one, or both of them, realize that their love is more important and stronger than anything trying to force them apart. We also get a nice introduction to Fortune's Island and the wonderful inhabitants there and the author introduces us to some other delightful characters that we KNOW we'll be reading more about in future books from Fortune's Island. Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

An amazing read and a great start to another fun series from this author! Set on a small island, this small town romance is a second chance/secret child story that will warm your heart, make you chuckle, and have you cheering at the end. For all appearances Kincaid Foster and Darcy Williams couldn't be any more different. But when the heart is involved, where you come from and what you have don't really matter in the end. If you listen, your heart will always lead you where you need to go. Now if these two will just listen!! I highly recommend this one!

A slow start to what turned out to be a fabulous story. Darcy has always wanted someone to care enough to want to look out for her. It broke my heart that the people she should have been able to rely on let her down. And Then Forever is the story of a woman who is used to looking out for herself but secretly has always wished to matter to someone. This girl was a strong cookie. To be hurt and tossed aside so many times and manage to keep putting one foot in front of the other. That took real faith and courage. Shirley Jump, I salute you for creating a heroine that stayed strong in the face of adversity without needing to be rescued by anyone but herself. So although the hero was nice, I applaud the heroine. Received an ARC of And Then Forever in exchange for an honest review.
