Editorial Reviews

Crescent Blues Book Reviews
And Then She Was Gone will enthrall you....Maggie Ryan will be a welcome addition to the literary detective force.
Thea Davis
...[I]ntroduces a dozen or more active characters, plus social issues such as child abuse and pornography...in a mere 238 pages. So, it's not surprising that the plot lurches along in short, choppy movements and that scenes, at times, shift abruptly. But despite this lack of flow and continuity, the book does provide action and an interesting small town setting.

And Then She was Gone is a real heart-in-your-throat page-turner. Every woman will empathize with the situation of a missing child and feel the terror of the Spencer family. McBride does a masterful job of creating harrowing situations, and Maggie Ryan is a character worth watching.
Harriet Klausner
readers will easily identify with the characters that feel like neighbors, friends, and relatives. This is what makes the novel even more frightening and unforgettable.

Jeri Wright
This promising first novel features a likeable heroine and a suspenseful mystery...an enjoyable read.

Martin J. Smith
Susan McBride hot-wired her first novel straight into my psyche. And Then She was Gone is rock-solid, well-researched and blessedly unpredictable with a heroine who's both extraordinary and refreshingly human. McBride writes with a practiced hand.

Grabs you at the beginning and does'nt let you go. Maggie Ryan, female detective, really sinks her teeth into this case and can relate to the victims from her past experience. This whodunit keeps you guessing until the end and can easily be read in a day or two. The whole book is from Maggie's point of view so it's not complicated but does keep your interest.

Ellen Spencer took her little girl, Carrie, to the park. Ellen turned her back for only a minute and Carrie had disappeared.

Detective Maggie Ryan transferred to quiet Litchfield to escape the smell of so much death. But even quiet areas occasionally see the gruesome. Possible suspects of the kidnaping were high, from family members to a criminal who had recently shown up. Each suspect had a dark past with several skeletons tucked away. But Maggie's childhood had been very abusive, and it was those dark times that made Maggie determined to catch the villain!

***** Susan McBride has taken every parent's nightmare and made the perfect detective for the job! This book left me breathless! Putting it down was simply unthinkable! I have high hopes of a second book featuring Detective Maggie Ryan. Highly recommended! *****

This author is loaded with story-telling talent and has the fictional skills to match. She knows how to unfold a plot. AND THEN SHE WAS GONE is a well-crafted, one-sitting read. But can she repeat? I'd buy her next book just to see.
