About the Author

Mary Beth Broussard was born to a family that loved animals, especially dachshunds! Her father was a veterinarian and had a love for all creatures from humming birds to horses. Her love of reading started as a child with many trips with her mother to the Alexandria Public Library, and her love of the Cajun culture came from visiting family in Grand Prairie, Louisiana. Mary Beth makes her home in Lafayette, Louisiana, with her husband Craig. They enjoy spending time with their college kids, Connor and Olivia, and kayaking on the waterways in south Louisiana. They have two dogs and one cat. Both dogs dress up for Halloween. The cat refuses. This is Mary Beth’s second picture book. Her first book is Gumbo Weather.

A native of New Iberia, Louisiana, artist Paul

Schexnayder is frequently featured as a

festival-poster artist, and his work has been

placed in galleries and shows throughout

the state. The author/illustrator of four

previous children’s books, including The

Gumbo Gators, The Gumbo Gators and the Swamp Circus, and I Know My Louisiana Colors, published by Pelican, he has worked as a visual-arts teacher in schools since 1989.
