    Informative, yet rushed.

I used to write Java software a while back, so I'm fairly familiar with the syntax, though there were a few points I was rusty with before picking up this book. The book says it's for any individual, regardless of programming experience, but it dives into the Java language without any form of introduction, simply assuming that the reader has prior experience. In order to keep up with what this book is doing, I had to purchase another book simply to re-learn the basics of the Java language. Yet, even after the refresher, the book still seems to fly headlong through Android app development, with a cursory explanation of concepts and code. It's just enough to get my feet wet, but at the end of it all I still don't feel confident even with the basics. One good thing about this book is that it helped me understand the underlying fundamentals of how the Android OS works, which has helped me plan my future projects. TL;DR - Before reading this book, make sure you have a basic understanding of Java and the Eclipse IDE. It's a good intro to the Android environment, but it will leave you wanting for more.

    Great

This is the first Android book I've read that made me literally rejoice: "I GET IT." Great for beginners. I can finally make sense of android applications and how they work.

I would love to see the author create a part II moving into advanced topics. Maybe "Android 'X' SDK Programming For Dummies" will fill that void?

Get this book! And then grab as many android recipes/tutorials as you can and work through them. And then ... profit.

    Does not disappoint

As with most "Dummy" books the focus is on the newbie. This is a very clear and concise book on the basics (and a little more) of Android app development. I have read other books before but they become bogged down in the fine details too quickly. This book keeps the broad picture in mind and, most importantly of all, doesn't forget who the "audience" is.
