Dr. Angeline Hemming is a beautiful, sassy, no-nonsense type of girl who has risen from a difficult past to become one of Chicago’s most successful and respected criminal profilers. In exchange for free commercials to promote her favorite charitable causes, Angel answers calls and gives relationship advice on a Friday night radio program.

Alexander Avery is a gorgeous and successful corporate genius who doesn’t believe in love. When his girlfriend-of-convenience calls into Angel’s program, he is furious with the show’s host who doles out (what he considers) blind advice, without knowing all the facts… and he decides to give her a piece of his mind, and his side of the story!

When Angel informs Alex he’s the one in need of a much-deserved lesson, all hell breaks loose as these two type-A personalities battle it out for control over minds and hearts, and yes, in bed. Not only are they fighting each other at every turn, but they are also struggling to uphold the convictions they each live by.

It’s unclear who is stronger, but both must discover that to get what they desperately want, they may have to give a little… or a lot.

The two main characters are very much type A personality: driven, successful, stubborn and passionate. The passion that ignites between these two power players is like watching the most intense chess match of your life. With each move and counter move you are anticipating what is he or she going to think of next. In the game of chess, the knight is always protected by the queen but who is going to protect the queen from herself when the moves she is making could cost her the game? The radio talk show therapist storyline is an intriguing one. I listen to the late night radio shows featuring Dr. so and so while driving but never gave it much thought as to what it must be like to experience being inside people’s heads for a living. “Angel’s level- headed ability to see both sides of (a) situation” was insightful and poignant. Angel is a masked crusader. By day, she is fights to right the wrongs of those unable to fight for themselves and ease the minds of the ones with broken hearts by night. The mask she wears hides her own inner pain that she has built a wall so high around it, that Superman couldn’t fly over it. To Angel, Alex comes off as “an arrogant prick who thinks he can get his dick wet whenever and with whomever he wants.” To Alex, Angel “is beautiful, smart and tough as nails”. She challenges his alpha male tendencies to conquer. He usually gets what he wants and her ability to push his buttons in all the right ways has him “up” for the challenge. He plays to win but no one said he was going to fight fair. Both have been bitten by the love bug and have the fever for each other to prove it but for that ails them, there is only one cure and it “is a four letter word. F.U.C.K”. This story is deliciously tempting. The witty banter between the two main characters had me more than once trying to keep score of who was ahead in their verbal tennis match. Alex’s character had been painted with a broad stroke from the little bit of information that Angel which left him having to prove his intentions throughout the book. The level of intimacy that Kahlen achieved was beyond the highest mark. It wasn’t about the sex as you are lead to believe but the connection. For me, that is what makes a good book, a great book. When I can attach myself to the outcome of the characters I become fully invested. The author has an old world sense of romanticism with this modern day love story. Alex uses words like “cad” and it harkens to books from a Victorian era where you would court someone before turning into a relationship. I love it when a man “woos” a woman.

The only thing that I did not like was when I came to the end of the book, it didn't end there but continues on in Confessions after dark. Now I have to go out and find the book. I wish I would have known that in the beginning.

Oh man where has Alex Avery been all my life? Inside the head of Kahlen Aymes! I loved this book, and I think I've found my newest BBF. Holy Hell... So Alex is a well educated multimillionaire working at his fathers company. He has everything a man could want. Until one night, he listens to her radio show. I'm not gonna giveaway a ton in this review since this book was just released. But I literally just finished it 20 mins ago. I wanted to write this while it was fresh in my mind. Kahlen Bravo.... Good work, now I'm gonna have to drool and wait for book 2 to come out.

Absolutely adored Kahlen Aymes' first Remembrance series and knew from the start that she would be a very successful romance author.  Her stories are always meticulously crafted, her characters immediately relatable even while being young, gorgeous, sexy and smart.  But I admit I was very curious to see if she could follow up such unforgettable characters as Remembrance's Julia and Ryan with another couple I would adore as much.  However, my curiosity was well served by Angel After Dark when I quickly fell for Angeline and Alex as much, if not even more!  These are strong-minded individuals with full-flying careers; she a highly respected criminal profiler who dabbles as a late night radio relationship expert, and he the suave multinational corporate magnate of his family's venerable empire, each based in the Windy City.  But for all their successes, they have yet to find anyone to match their beauty, character and passion for living. An innocent trip to the hardware store offers a chance meeting which leaves them both instantly attracted, but frustrated when nothing quite transpires.  But their second run-in totally captivates as Alex is forced to phone into Angel's radio show when he learns his paramour of convenience has been complaining rather one-sidedly over the airwaves about their waning relationship.  Alex's and Angel's banter is delightful and the attraction undeniable as sparks fly.  From there a very well written story builds as Angel's profiling work puts her in chilling danger - forcing these two to finally admit their intense feelings as they try to expose who is intimidating Angel. Once again the author has woven a tale of steamy romance -still the very best writer of the genre I have read- alongside a page turning plot, this time of intrigue, secrets and danger, that keeps you flying along the pages. My favorite surprise came when I realized I won't have to say goodbye to these two just yet - Kahlen Aymes promises a second installment later this yea

Good Book with some flaws I'd give 3.5 Stars. I am torn between liking this story and being annoyed by it – at least at some parts. The writing wasn’t bad but I was annoyed at the constant repeat of “Uhhh“ and “Ummm” and “Unnng”. I also had to get used to the writing in general. The constant change of POV’s was irritating. I don’t know the right description of this but google said it’s called an omniscient narrative perspective. Everything’s revealed and you don’t have to wonder what he’s/she’s thinking because you get everybody’s perspective. No place for the reader’s imagination. The Story: Dr. Angeline Hemming, short Angel, gives every Friday night advises to women on the radio. She thinks those women are prey for men and they are stupid for falling for men which are obviously not relationship material. When Alex talks to Angel on the radio, he is intrigued by her charm, humor and wit. When he finally meets her, he can't believe it. She is the full package. Beautiful and intelligent. She has it all. He wants to get to know her better while she tries to keep her distance from him because she knows men like him and that she would get burned in the process of getting to know him. Angel knows how awful men can be because of her work as a criminal profiler and that it’s better not to get too involved with them. Likes/Dislikes: While I had really high expectations of this book because the blurb sounded oh so good, I was disappointed by the first half of it. It sometimes felt a bit dull. It's too much insta-love/attraction for me especially because both have been living their lifestyles for too long to change it in such short time for someone they hardly knew. Angel thinks women are stupid for falling for awful men but in the end she isn’t so much different than them. She herself falls head over heels for a guy that is exactly one of those types she warns other women of. Ugh! I liked it nonetheless but had some troubles with a few bits and pieces. Though when the threats started and it got really interesting I couldn't stop reading. It sadly ended really abruptly and I wish I could continue reading. I loved Alex’s character. He was caring, passionate, loving, and just irresistible. But I think it's still strange that he and also Angel turned 180° in a few minutes because they both wanted different things when it came to relationships and suddenly they can’t think about anything else than about each other and being with one another. Despite some troubles I had in the beginning of the book, I want to read the next book because I so wanna know what happens next! I believe there will be a HEA in the end which is fine by me but I especially want the gooey parts. I loved the sex scenes. They were hot! And Alex is so worried about Angel. I loved this about him even though we don't know a lot about him yet. -- I received an ARC of this book from the author through the Fifty Shades Support Group on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review. --

ARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Angel After Dark is an intriguing beginning to a 3 book series. I like that Angel is a smart woman with a good head on her shoulders. I also like that even though Alex treats his past relationships more like business deals, he's respectful and monogamous to his relationships. There is an exciting cat and mouse chase between Angel and Alex as they get to know each other. Meanwhile danger is lurking due to Angels recent profiling case. This book definitely leaves you interested in finding out what happens next in the series.

Angel After Dark, Kahlen Aymes Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre: Romance, Erotica Well, my biggest disappointment of this book was that is a trilogy...I didn’t realise that, had thought it was one of those where the series consists of connected books, the ones where a couple in the first book become the mainstay of book two and a couple from there make book three but each book is standalone. Luckily books two and three are out, and fortunately not expensive. That’s the upside – I can carry on ( soon as I have time from review reads) with the story while its still fresh. I like to read duos/trilogies back to back, waiting months, years even for some I lose the momentum and there’s never the same impact. Anyway, moving on, the book: Two terrific characters, both very intelligent, hardworking, Alpha types and neither want emotional attachment for reasons personal to them. When they first set eyes on each other sparks shimmer between them, but circumstances mean they don’t actually get to meet till six months on. By then Angel has some preconceived ideas about Alex, via his “girlfriend” who phones into her show. Even though its clear her story is very one sided Angel still thinks Alex is an arrogant jerk, and TBH he doesn’t do much at first to change that opinion. Somehow, by a bit of bribery by way of donation to her favourite charity, and encouragement on her part from her friend who thinks Alex is drop dead gorgeous and worth a fling with, they have one date, that leads to another and another. Soon they’re steaming up the sheets and there’s some sizzling sexual tension between them. Its not just a romance though, hot though it is, there’s more going on. Alex is concerned about Angels job, she’s had a couple of incidents in the past where her decisions have been unwelcome by those convicted, and now she’s embroiled in a very nasty case where everyone feels the guy is guilty but he’s clever, knows what to say, how to get round her tests and looks to get away with it. Angel is determined he won’t but then things start getting dangerous, with threats to her and her friends....Alex is scared for her safety, its clear she’s been contacted and threatened, he’s there for some of it, but she can’t discuss it with him, simply reassures him she’ll be fine, can take care of herself. He’s an alpha too though and by now she’s more than just someone he wants to teach a lesson to, he can’t sit back and do nothing while she’s under threat. I was expecting things to begin to wrap up by 80%, and of course when it didn’t look that way that's when I began to suspect more books. I feel its quite a sudden, abrupt ending, though there isn’t always a neat stopping point in trilogies. I do think if books are not standalone that needs to be made very, very clear upfront, but as I said at least the next part of this is out...Its got some great side characters too, not just Alex and Angel, and a plot that’s going to be really interesting, but I did feel at times this dragged, felt a bit as though it was filling space more than moving things on. Still, its well worth reading if you want a hot, sensual story with some decent plots behind it, a book that’s more than just a romance. Stars: Four, excellent start to the trilogy ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers If you enjoyed my review I'd love it if you would please click “Like” and if you didn't I'd love to know why, so I can make future reviews more helpful.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’  Stars What happens when two immovable forces meet each other? Run for your life and don’t get caught in between them! This is the first book in Kahlen Aymes, After Dark series.  It is the beginning of Angel and Alex’s story, a story of two dominating, controlling characters that find they are meant for each other. Dr. Angeline Hemming is a determined female advocate that controls her life.  She is independent and self-sufficient and takes nothing from the males that want to be in her life.  She is also a beautiful, caring, loyal woman that will do anything for those she loves.  When she accidentally comes face to face with a beautiful man while shopping for paint the electricity is explosive between them but they don’t exchange a word, just looks.  Angel cannot believe the attraction she feels towards this mysterious man, a man that she will probably meet again.  Alex cannot believe that he didn’t follow the beautiful woman out of the store and ask for her name and phone number.  She affected him in a way no other woman ever had and now she was gone.  When his best friend told him about a woman that was working for him at the radio station and told him how beautiful and smart she was, he thought he was exaggerating.  When his friend told him about how hot she was, Alex wanted nothing to do with it!  He didn’t believe him, until he heard her voice on the radio and listened to her explain and council the people that called in. Intrigued he wanted to meet this woman and would do whatever was necessary to get to know her.  When the two meet Alex is blown away to discover that the beautiful woman he had met weeks ago was the beautiful woman standing in front of him.  Sparks fly and tempers blow, but the sexual tension overshadows everything.  Can Alex convince Angel that he is more than a playboy womanizer? Will Angel give him a chance?  Or will an evil destroy them, an evil they are unaware of? Hero: Alexander Avery 4.5 stars Heroine: Dr. Angeline Hemming 4.5 stars Plot:  4.5 stars Steam Level:  4.5 stars Cliffhanger:  Yes Would I recommend this book:  Yes. I am really impressed with this remarkable author and her amazing books. Her characters are fun, sexy and make you want to get to know them better.  I cannot wait to read the next book in this trilogy! ***Received an ARC of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review***
