Library Journal
Angels and demons, love and hate, heaven and hell—there is no middle ground in this debut novel, the diary of the orphan, part of a half-human, half-angel zephyr family whose mission is to guard the fiery spade that marked Adam and Eve's departure from the Garden of Eden. Pitted against them, however, is Satan, who is involved in a fierce struggle to regain control of the spade and seize Heaven's throne. A rare example of the Mexican fantasy genre, this book builds on the appeal of recent films by Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarn, as well as works by J.K. Rowling and Dan Brown. This is the second in a series just appearing in Mexico (further installments not yet available) that will recount the adventures of three generations of the zephyr family. Complete with maps and documents, this epic fantasy novel inspired a film scheduled for release later this year. Recommended for large public libraries.—Alison Hicks, Univ. of Colorado at Boulder
