Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Angelina, her friend Alice, and her sister Polly make their costumes for Halloween. On Halloween evening they set off together with their trick-or-treat bags. On their round through the neighborhood, they even step shortly inside the strange and shadowy "haunted house." After the Grand Costume Parade in the village, Miss Lily hands out prizes and Angelina, Alice, and Polly win the special award for Halloween dancing. But where is Polly? Angelina searches for her everywhere, until she reaches the haunted house, where she finds Polly, sitting on the stairs, sharing candy with three little friends. "You really scared me!" says Angelina. And on the way home, the two sisters are holding hands and are planning their costumes for next Halloween. Another great book of the "Angelina Ballerina" series, with the usual fabulous, colorful, and very detailed illustrations. A great Halloween book for the little ones, since it is rather cheerful, with only one short and very gentle "scary" section. 2000, Pleasant Company Publications, $9.95. Ages 3 up. Long past Halloween

My four-year-old granddaughter continues to ask for this book to be read, long past Halloween. Angelina remains a favorite character, and the illustrations are as captivating as the story.
