Meet the Author

Leland lives in the middle of a beautiful nowhere that is Colorado's San Luis Valley. Angelo, the world famous Border Collie, and Maggie, his black Lab philosopher mix, allow him to share their off-grid home. All three tolerate The Cat who does a merely adequate job of rodent control.

Leland has built the majority of the 1800 square foot all-solar home over almost four years, but is grateful to friends and neighbors who have helped with some of the heavy lifting. His website is www.hermitblog.com. The blog portion of his website is also available on the Kindle (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0034KYZ9A)

Leland and Angelo have just published their latest collaborative work, Angelo's Journey. Angelo disappeared for five and a half weeks last year, and ever since, Leland has struggled to come up with what might have happened during that time. This book is a fictional account of that very dark time.

Leland is currently working on his next two books. One is a fictionalized memoir of his mother, and the other is a mystery set in Colorado's beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountains.

    A Never Put Down Book!

Omgosh talk 'bout never wanting to put a book down til you're done, this is the one. From start to finish you will not put it down! I was hooked just by reading the inside jacket, it was that good. But talk 'bout a real tear jerker, it'll get your heart strings pulling like crazy, pumping, etc. Sooo good! At times it'll really getcha going, you'll actually want to skip to the end, but plz don't, don't skip one page, it's that good. I truly recommend this book, whole heartedly! Leland, you & Angelo will always be in my heart!

    A four legged angel

"Angelo's Journey" is a wonderful account of a kidnapped dog and his long journey home. The canine counselor touches and changes the lives of the humans he meets along his way home in a very moving and heart wrenching manner.
Leland Dirks has a special relationship with his border collie, Angelo and clearly narrates the possible impacts that his four legged companion could have had on people he came across during his five and a half week sojourn home.
"Angelo's Journey" proves that dogs are the intelligent members of the family and we better pay attention to what they try to teach us.

Wonderful Dog Story-A must read for dog lovers.

I absolutely loved Angelo's Journey. The courage and determination of this beautiful border collie touched my heart. This is not only a dog story but also gives insight into human psychology and personalities that range from bad to troubled and to good. Well written and captivating the story of Angelo held me in thrall from page one until the end.

    LOVE this book!

I enjoyed this book so much. The story follows a dog as he makes a long trek home and meets and influences many people along the journey. Each person along the way is well drawn and individual, and emotionally engaging for the reader. The ending is one of the most satisfying I have read in a long time. Highly recommend!

I'm an animal lover and any story featuring dogs grabs my attention. The story revolves around a Border Collie named Angelo, who after being kidnapped and taken to Texas tries to find his way back home to Colorado.

Along the way he meets people who are having problems in their lives, and Angelo proves to be a real angel as he saves their lives. I got a bit teary-eyed reading about the characters and how Angelo touched their lives.

If you've ever had a pet go missing, you know the feeling that comes along with it. The author shares his blog about his sadness and worry over Angelo, and as someone who had a dog run away I felt his heartache as I read his blog excerpts.

If you're looking for a heartwarming story that proves the adage that animals are angels then I recommend this book.

Angelo's journey is so inspirational that I found myself being swept away by this tale of a Border Collie's quest to find his way back home. The author makes his references toward this dog's behavior in such a loving way that it makes the story seem very personal. Angelo is essentially kidnapped from home by a wild man and driven over two hundred miles away. His adventure begins when he escapes his captor and then makes his way back home affecting the lives of those he encounters along the way.

I saw this cover and immediately thought to myself "I love Border Collies so I have to read this." The cover sold the story for me already; however, the tale was truly touching. I have a tremendous love for animals so this really captured my attention. I love the way that the author defines Angelo's behavior and personality; he describes the gentle way that Angelo takes food from others and the deep brown eyes of understanding. He also provides a wonderful pace for the story which allows his readers to picture every vivid detail being described and every situation conveyed during the characters interrupted lives.

Overall, I would recommend this story to my club members that have a passion for animals. Border Collies are amongst the top five canine species that appeal to me. They are understanding, patient, smart, and very perceptive to emotion.

Angelo's Journey: A Border Collie's Quest for Home by Leland Dir

Angelo's Journey: A Border Collie's Quest for Home by Leland Dirks is filled with real-life emotion. I love how the author writes with such passion for Angelo. It makes my heart melt. So endearing, heartwarming and imaginative. I absolutely adored this book. I read with vigor wanting to know where it all would lead. There are so many positive reminders in this one book. I found it to be inspirational. This book made me laugh out loud and then filled my eyes with tears. It is written in such a way that as a reader you care. You want to see a happy resolve.

This story was an uplift and lifted my spirits high. Mr. Dirks captures humanity in such a unique way. He has a rare gift to tell a story about a dog without making it seem silly or irrelevant.

Angelo's Journey: A Border Collie's Quest for Home is a magical tale that pulled on my heartstrings and had me throughly wrapped up into Angelo’s adventures.

“Every one of those dogs at the Monte Vista shelter, even the one who had been shot, was ready for human love and trust. I am in awe of the canine ability to rebuild hope, even after having been abused.”
