Overview

This collection of sacred music spans a millennium: from the ancient, rapturous chants of medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen to the hypnotic, austere music of the modern English composer John Tavener. Following up on the successful compilations TEARS FROM HEAVEN and MORE TEARS FROM HEAVEN, ANGELS OF ECSTASY offers 14 inspiring vocal samples that cover a variety of moods, including darkly meditative pieces like "Bless the Lord, O My Soul" from Sergei Rachmaninov's "Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom," as well as red-blooded operatic excerpts like the "Regina Coeli" from Pietro Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana." The album closes with the overwhelming sonic majesty of the final minutes of Mahler's mighty "Symphony of a Thousand." Featuring leading performers such as sopranos Renata Scotto and Barbara Bonney and conductors James Levine, Riccardo Muti, and Sir Colin Davis, ANGELS OF ECSTASY can be savored for the riches it contains or used as a guide for discovering the vast riches of the sacred repertory.

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Angels of Ecstacy combines the works of composers like Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Faure, Gorecki and Verdi with the vocal talents of Ben Heppner, Sharon Sweet, Vesselina Kasarova and Seji Ozawa. A soothing and classically lovely collection.
