Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
The bad piggies are wrecking the rain forest. The Angry Birds have to unite to stop the piggies from destroying their rain forest. The first order of business is learning about the Amazon rain forest in South America, the largest in the world. It is called the lungs of the planet because of all of the oxygen its many trees and plants put back in the air. The rain forest is also home to millions of animals. The rain forest has five different layers where specific plants and animals live. The very top is called the emergent. These are the tops of the very tallest trees that poke above the next lower layer, the canopy. Birds, monkeys, reptiles and sloths live in the canopy. The understory is wide-leaved trees inhabited by animals like tree frogs, insects, and jaguars. The forest floor is the ground under the forest. It is damp, dark and carpeted with rotting leaves and plant matter. Another important part of the Amazon rain forest is the Amazon River. It is twisty and wide with crocodiles, fish, and turtles. After this introduction, the book is divided into chapters that introduce each of the five layers and the river with detailed descriptions of resident plants and animals. Angry birds are present and chatting on each page. A bright and lively book that aims to make a nonfiction topic appealing to readers. Reviewer: Kristin Harris; Ages 6 to 12.
