Overview

Angry Octopus is a story that teaches children how to use progressive muscle relaxation and breathing techniques to calm down, lower stress, and control anger. Children relate to the angry octopus in this story as the sea child shows the octopus how to take a deep breath, calm down, and manage his anger.

Children learn to unwind, relax, and control anger with this fun exercise known as progressive muscle relaxation. Children relate to the angry octopus in this story as the sea child shows him how to take a deep breath, calm down, and manage his anger. These effective stress and anger management techniques for children focus awareness on various muscle groups to create a complete resting of the mind and body. Progressive muscle relaxation can be used to lower stress, decrease pain, and manage anger.

This engaging story quiets the mind and relaxes the body so your child can let go of anger, relax, and fall asleep peacefully. This story is longer making it ideal for older children or those with a longer attention span.

Angry Octopus is also featured on the Indigo Ocean Dreams Audio/CD and is available as an interactive APP on the iTunes bookstore. It is also available in several eBook formats.

Note to Parent:

Angry Octopus is a kid favorite. Parents report that their children use the techniques in the story to calm themselves and also remind their parents to use the same technique. This story received national attention on ABC’s Shark Tank. Every child has a different emotional maturity, attention span, and need. While the stories are best suited for ages 6-12, do not let this be your primary reason for selecting. You know your child best and remember this is not about the reading level. The focus is on the actual techniques.

I am outraged that we just paid over $6 for this book! You can't even see the pages clearly enough to read them. Who knows if it's a good story? We cant tell you because we cant see it!

I was referred to this book by a colleague of mine who works with kids 7-12 who suffer from emotional challenges along with severe anxiety. Although the kids in my practice are a little younger they LOVE the book and have taken to the technique in the story. Their parents see first-hand results of using muscular relaxation especially at bedtime. I highly recommend the paperback or eBook version on iTunes. I don't think the Nook has a big enough screen.

We had no problems viewing this story which is an excellent tool to help kids learn how to relax and calm down. Both my 'high energy' kids were relaxed and falling asleep half way through the story. I just bought the paperback version and iTunes App to have at all times. Will look at other books as well. What a great concept!

My kids ask to read this story every night. After the first month I substituted the CD and they turn it on themselves. Now they listen to the story every night and wake rested and happy.

My son who has an ASD found this book very helpful for managing anger! It taught him how to work through those angry feelings. He also loves the imagery given by the illustrations!

Both of my kids (ages 6 and 9) have anxiety and a tough time at bedtime. They love reading this story and following the octopus along to learn the relaxation exercise. What a cute way of teaching them how to manage their anxiety. Most nights they are ready for bed right after reading the book. I bought the CD to put on if they need a little more relaxation.
