Die meisten empirischen Arbeiten befassen sich mit dem Angstniveau der Probanden und dessen Veränderung über die Zeit (siehe Überblick bei Sergl & Müller-Fahlbusch, 1989 oder Jöhren & Sartory, 2002). Auch Schmerzerleben und Schmerzverarbeitung dieser Personengruppe wurden vielfach untersucht (u.a. Klepac, Dowling, Hauge, & McDonald, 1980b; Lindsay & Woolgrove, 1982; Klepac, Dowling & Hauge, 1982; Brumme, 2000). Jedoch gibt es nur sehr wenige und z.T. widersprüchliche Studien, die sich mit dem Gedächtnis für Angst oder Schmerz bei Patienten in zahnärztlichen Behandlungen befassen (Klepac, McDonald & Hauge, 1980a; Kent, 1985; Urban, 1997). Noch weniger ist bisher über den Einfluss der Zeit oder anderer Faktoren auf das Angst- und Schmerzgedächtnis besonders bei Patienten mit Zahnbehandlungsangst bekannt. Diese Forschungslücke soll durch die vorliegende Diplomarbeit gefüllt werden.

Ein weiterer wichtiger Aspekt, der in diesem Zusammenhang bei vielen Untersuchungen bisher vernachlässigt worden ist, ist die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Theoretikern und Praktikern. Daher ist es ein Anliegen dieser Arbeit, Theorie und Praxis miteinander zu verbinden. Die Untersuchung basiert auf einer Kooperation mit einer Zahnarztpraxis, die schon seit vielen Jahren Angstpatienten mit Hypnosetechniken behandelt.

Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, durch Befragung von Patienten einer zahnärztlichen Praxis Aussagen über ihr Angst- und Schmerzerleben zu erhalten. Dabei bilden die rekonstruktiven Effekte des Gedächtnisses für Angst und Schmerz bei dieser Patientengruppe einen besonderen Schwerpunkt. Weiterhin wird untersucht
