Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

“Among the many indigenous picture books of this season, Angus and the Ducks stands out for good and sufficient reasons. It is good to look at, it is delightful to read aloud...and above all it has an inner and outer harmony...There is every prospect that Angus and the Ducks can lay claim to a kind of permanence.” —Books, 1930
Children's Literature - Jolene Ivey
This story is nearly seventy years old, yet has retained all of its charm. Angus is a Scottish Terrier whose bold curiosity gets reined in by a pair of quacking ducks. The pictures are full of personality and help tell a timeless tale with simplicity and humor. Also by the author are: Angus and the Cat and Angus Lost.

This is a classic, beautifully illustrated story that is fun to read aloud, even for the fiftieth time. The illustrations of suburban life in the pre-war period (that's WW2) will be fascinating to children who know nothing about milk being delivered, trousers with suspenders, or wide empty roads. See also Angus Lost and Angus and the Cat, wish there were more but only three in this lovely little series about the curious Scottie dog. -Librarian's daughter

This book brings back the fondest memories of my childhood. My father and I used to walk to the Library every Saturday morning. This was our special time. He liked to check out mystery novels and I checked out Angus and the Ducks every single week. I was only 4, that was the only book I could read on my own. I knew all the charecters and what was going to happen to Angus next. I figured that if I had a book to read with me at all times that I could relate to, nobody would question why a little girl who was 4, was reading a book alone. At my grandchild's baby shower, it was requested that the gift was ackomplished with a book. There is no other book I wanted my grandchild to have. He has it in his library now, he does not need to check it out every week like I did.
