Children's Literature - Nancy Garhan Attebury
A two-headed lamb, a man buried up to his neck in slimy worms, a bird whose feathers have grown out of control, and a fifty pound catfish that managed to get a basketball caught in its mouth lend themselves well to the cover of this book. Plenty of short paragraphs packed with amazing animal facts make up the bulk of the material. One page entitled "Marked from Birth" shows a Japanese crab with a natural happy face on its belly, a goldfish with a birthmark that appears to be a black question mark, and a horse with a perfectly shaped heart on its side. Bright photos add to the text and will draw students even if they cannot read all of the words. In addition to the informational paragraphs, several fact boxes are scattered throughout the book. This book is part of the "Ripley's Believe It or Not" series. Reviewer: Nancy Garhan Attebury
