Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Following close on the heels of Linzey's Animal Gospel (LJ 1/00), psychologist and activist Randour's book moves beyond theological and moral assertions of the worth of animals to show how animals can help us heal from illnesses, learn to love, and deal with death itself. Randour's method is more narrative and anecdotal than advisory, but her ardor should be persuasive to many readers. Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.\

She writes about the compassion, but there is a catch.

The concepts in here are wonderful, about being compassionate toward animals. Yet it is disturbing to anyone who really takes this seriously by being a vegetarian. She discusses her criticism of the hierarchy presented in Christianity, but still chooses to eat animals - presumably because we are indeed higher than them. It doesn't make sense! I know of others who feel the same about this book, but such reviews are not posted.

An exciting new contribution to the Animal Rights Movement!

Written with eloquence and compassion, Mary Lou Randour's Animal Grace does for the Animal Rights Movement what Gloria Steinham's and Betty Friedan's writing did for the Women's Movement. The consciousness-raising potential of the book is very exciting. I have given copies of Animal Grace to friends who are starting their journey of discovery. As it happened with me, my friends report a new-found awareness about how their actions affect the lives of animals and, with that awareness, an emerging sense of compassion. Animal Grace truly does open our hearts and minds, reconnects us to other animals, and by restoring our ties with the natural world enhances and guides our spiritual journey.

Animal Grace is a book worth reading

As a buddhist, amongst the the presepts I have taken is to affirm life, do not kill. Animal Grace elucidates this precept and takes it to logical conclusiins. Anyone who practices a spiritual path that includes not doing harm, such as Ahimsa, will find this book a worthwhile read.
