Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Short text and snappy pictures make this book feel almost like a web site. Exploring the habitat needs of insects, spiders, crocodiles, elephants, big cats and more, the book goes around the world in a very short time. While advertised for ages 9-12, the vocabulary and sentence structure are remarkably complex for this age group. In fact, the book feels very much like an adult text. Here for example, is the beginning of the section titled Migrant Butterflies: "Most butterflies and moths live and die within a very small area, never moving far from their birthplace. However, a few species travel astonishing distances in search of food or to escape cold or overpopulated areas." That said, there is a lot of good information inside the 64-page book and the pictures are stunning. The captions are well-done and as informative as the main text. Backmatter includes a glossary and an index. 2004, Southwater/Anness Publishing Ltd, and Ages 9 to 12.
