Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
K-Gr 3-Brief overviews of specific patterns and cycles in nature, featuring two-page chapters and plentiful photos. In Animal, simple terms are used to introduce readers to the life cycles of reptiles, insects, mammals, and amphibians. Hibernation explains that concept through the stages an animal goes through such as: "Storing Fat," "Settling Down," "Slowing Down." Children will learn about how seeds grow into plants and produce more seeds in Plant. All of the books have large-print texts set against bright backgrounds. Additional bits of information appear in bubbles against the photos. These titles will be useful as introductions or as supplements to more specific resources. For example, Claire Llewellyn's Duck (NorthWord, 2004) would pair nicely with Animal.-Maren Ostergard, Bellevue Regional Library, WA Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
