Children will be lulled to sleep by counting a menagerie of drowsy animals in this rhyming bedtime book. Ages 3-6. (Dec.)
School Library Journal - School Library Journal
PreS This bedtime counting book features a rhyming text and soft, sleepy animals in its counting journey. Each two-page spread features a large numeral on one page and the corresponding number of slumbering animals on the facing page. Illustrations are warm and humorous, with soft colors and rounded animals full of character. The consistent use of matching patterned borders and numbers adds a certain charm. However, a few of the number presentations may prove unclear to the very young. For instance, the number 6 shows 6 jumping mama kangaroos carrying 6 sleeping babies in their pouches; children may count a total of 12 kangaroos. The numbers nine and ten demand that readers search very closely to find all the animals. Nevertheless, this attractive book works fairly well as a counting and/or a bedtime tale. It will be most appreciated in a one-on-one situation. Deb Andrews, formerly at Kokomo-Howard County Pub . Lib . , Ind.
