Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-K-Reproductions of stunning works of art are used to illustrate various attributes associated with animals. On each of the nine spreads, an adjective appears in bold letters along with pictures of two different creatures. A variety of artistic mediums and styles is included in the selections, from 15th-century prints to contemporary Western art. "Scaly" is represented by a Japanese woodblock print of a fish and a Bengali scroll painting of a crocodile. Two 19th-century European paintings, one showing two leopards and one depicting a giraffe, are paired with "Spotty." Whether domestic or wild, all of the animals will be familiar to young children. A list at the end identifies the title, artist, and location of each piece of art, but does not specify its medium. The layout is clean but somewhat static. An additional purchase for deeper art collections.-Robin L. Gibson, formerly at Perry County District Library, New Lexington, OH Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
