Popular questions such as Does my pet miss me? Did he know I loved him? Can he hear me when I talk to him? The story begins when the spirit of Browne's dog, Jolie, leaves her body and goes home to live on the other side. Jolie runs, jumps, and plays with her eternal friends all around the world, devoid of the pain and suffering she was experiencing on earth. This is a comforting account of a pet's journey through one life and on to the next that explains how animals enjoy eternal happiness right alongside the people who love them.

Perhaps more suited to young children

I had just lost my beloved Newfoundland after seventeen years and I was feeling rather down. I respect Sylvia Browne's work and thought her new book 'Animals On The Other Side', might comfort me. I really wanted to know Sylvia's opinion on what my companion might be experiencing on the other side. However, I was disappointed.

The book does not have much depth to it and I feel it would be better suited to young children. Personally, I found Sylvia and her son's approach to the subject, too idealistic and sugary sweet. So much so, that I was left rejecting the book as a whole.

    I Also Recommend:

A soothing story for the loss of a pet

The book is a soothing and helpful tool to assist in the grieving process from the loss of a pet. It is a story that is read many times in the process of grief. I have given this book to friends, adults and children, who have cherished the words, and been able to feel comfort for they know their animals have gone to "the Otherside", where ever that may be for the,and are now safe.

This is a Review about the actual Book and NOT the Authors (unlike some)...

It seems there are numerous reviews here about the Authors and not the book itself. Regardless of what you may or may not believe this book can bring comfort to ANYONE suffering from the loss of a pet. I highly recommend it!

    Quit complaining

If you don't like the book, exchange it. Barnes and Noble has such a wonderful policy about wanting their customers to be satisfied with the purchase, that no one has any need to be complaining. Why would anyone read a book about animals in Heaven if they didn't want to believe it's true??

    Disappointing

The only 'star' I can give is for the pretty pictures, the rest of the book would get none! I was very disappointed when I received this book, let alone read it. I had hoped that someone of Sylvia's 'talent' would have brought some insight as to what our beloved pets see and feel -- what happens to them -- when they pass on from this life and exist on the Other Side. Instead, this book was written like a fairy tale, with a bunch of superficial meaningless narrative, meant to be read by a child or one who does not seek some intelligent answers and truly wants to find comfort in the knowledge that our beloved pets are now free from the physical problems and pain they encountered during their last days with us here on Earth. Sadly enough, although the illustrations were nice, they contributed nothing to enhance the meaningless narrative provided by Sylvia and her son. As an example, on one page, Sylvia's son describes the Other Side as being a constant 78-degrees, but yet the illustration for that narrative shows a cartoon of Sylvia's dog frolicking in Antartica! Maybe I'll have to read this one a couple of hundred times before I feel I've gotten my money's worth. Lord knows that should only take an hour or so, since it's only 30 or so pages long!

    what a joke!

This woman Sylvia Browne is crazy. She contradicts herself and appears to just make stuff up and people buy it because they're sad and grieving. It's shocking. Don't waste your time or money on this hogwash. She's getting rich and you're getting ripped off.

    exploring different ideas

Science and religions seek to answer questions that haunt us about how life works, what happens after death, etc. We all share this life together, but not necessarily beliefs in the same answers about death and an afterlife. Since we don't know 'who's right' until we ourselves die, it's fascinating and valuable as neighbors to take time to learn about other views. There's no need for some of the reviewers here to denigrate the beliefs of others. Believe in what you want, but don't criticize others for being open-minded enough to entertain other ideas. This book presents an interesting alternative view to the afterlife that will be comforting to many across spiritual beliefs who treasure the spirits of the animals who share their love with us.

True or not, one can find comfort in this book

Having just lost my beloved beagle to cancer and missing her terribly, my mother bought me this book as a source of comfort. No one except God knows what truly lies ahead when we leave this earth. As for me, I believe that my animals who I loved and cared for on earth will be waiting for me when I join them on The Other Side. The belief of rather this book is true or not is a personal choice. Perhaps the question we should ask is 'why did we read this book?' Was it to find comfort in the loss of a beloved-pet? There are many ficitonal movies, songs, books, etc. that bring us comfort and peace in times of heartache. I thank Sylvia and Chris for writing a book that comforted my broken heart, true or not. Finally, the only known truth is that one day we will all experience what is waiting for us on The Other Side and it is at that time that we will have the answer.

    Excuse me?

I truly have to wonder what motivates people to write a book like this. The simple fact is that animals and humans die. Wanting to know what happens afterwards is an understandable emotion, but you won't find the answers in this book. Within you'll find 32 pages of illustrations showing animals being ¿happy¿ in heaven - pandas cuddling cats etc. But not a single page is based on reality. It is in fact baloney from one end to the other where the authors simply invent their own view of heaven and fill it with creatures. I don't know about you but I'd rather not feed my child a pack of nonsense. Why not just tell the child the truth - no one knows what happens to an animal when it dies, but it still lives on in our memories and the times we shared with it. The simple fact is that lead author, Sylvia Browne can no more speak to the 'other side' any more than you or I which is to say not at all. She has repeatedly been challenged to perform her act under scientifically controlled conditions but she refuses to do so with one lame excuse after another. She won't even do it for a cool million dollars despite promising to do so. A million dollars that she could earn give to any number of worthy causes AND totally validate her views AND dispel her critics, those who accuse her of cold-reading and other simple carny tricks. But back to this book. It really is absurd from one end to the other. Grief is a terrible thing, especially when people exploit it. Sit down with your kid and tell them the truth. Perhaps they might surprise you with their resilience. Will they grieve? Of course they will. Will they get over their loss? With your support they'll come away stronger than ever. I can think of no greater harm you can do a kid than coddle them with outright lies as you'll find in this book.

    this book rocks

Wow! I'm glad I read this book because now I know that animals go to heaven like everyone else. I can't wait to die so that I can meet my pet earthworm I had when I was six years old before accidentally stepping on him. I was skeptical about whether or not he went to heaven or if he just disappeared, but now that Sylvia Browne says so, I know he's in heaven. Unless he's considered an insect in which case he won't be in heaven because Sylvia said insects don't go to heaven. But he's not an insect and I'm sure to have a gay old time throughout eternity talking to him telepathically. I'm sure he has so much to say to me about his life as an earthworm.

    Losing our best friends

We have put two cats to sleep because of illnesses that could not be treated. Bringing your cats home in an urn is so stressful. Although they are home with you, you know you can't hold them, pet them and talk to them. You see them everywhere. I have 7 other cats, and one dog and I dread the day that we have to do this again. Sylvia's book is definitely an eye opener and conforting book for anyone who loses a pet. It is like losing family. I see and feel my cats everywhere in our home and my other cats sense their spirits. Sylvia has made it much easier to accept the loss although the emptiness is still there, it is more bearable. Thank you so much, Sylvia.

    Animals on the Other Side

I love this book because it lets the reader 'see' through the eyes of a psychic what the other side is like. The illustrations are so good. You feel like you are on the other side with all the animals in the world. I never really knew about what the other side was like or if animals where there. Now, after reading this book, I am thrilled to know that the afterlife is full of animals and fun. Sylvia also describes what heaven is like and what we do there. I will give you a hint: We don't just sit on clouds playing harps. Tennis anyone?

    Sylvia's best book!!!

Animals on the Other Side is Sylvia's best book! I bought this book because our family dog was dying of cancer. I wanted to find a book to help explain to the kids where our dog was going. Telling a child, 'our dog is going to leave to go to heaven' is not enough. To a child, 'What is Heaven?' Sylvia and her son, Chris, tell the story of their family dog, Jolie. They can see their pets in heaven and what they do there. I am a christian and this book dexcribes heaven in detail and also what animals do there. Sylvia and Chris dexcribe what heaven looks like, what the weather is like, what we do for all eternity and a lot more. This book is a great 'feel good' book for everyone who loves animals and especially for anyone who has ever lost a pet and wondered if it went to heaven.
