In the 70's Pink Floyd released 4 albums that gained them fame. They'd had a cult following, but up till then hadn't made it into the big time. That changed with Dark Side of The Moon. A landmark album that changed rock music forever. They followed it with Wish You Were Here, a Sentimental Perfectionist album. If any band has come close to crafting perfection, Wish You Were Here is clear Evidence that Pink Floyd did. Then came Animals a darker sadder album than DarkSide or Wish You Were Here. Animals is based off of George Orwell's novel Animal Farm, the main idea behind the whole concept is that there are 3 kinds of people. Dogs, the power hungry and greedy killers, Pigs, the ones that leach off of everyone else, and Sheep, the ones that mindlessly follow the leader. Lyrically, the content of the album is pretty bleak though it does get more positive towards the end in that area the album succeeds. Musically, one should listen to this album in a dark Room with Headphones on, it's one of those albums that deserves nothing less. The only thing I dont like is that some of the perpetuating music is a bit overdone, dont get me wrong I like long songs, but "Dogs" coming in at over 17 minutes is a bit much, some of the material seems like it's there just so it could be there and not for a particular reason. That being, said the music is Fantastic, so it's easy to overlook the Overkill. A great piece of work, and a essential for any Pink Floyd Fan - CM

I enjoy it more than The Wall or Dark Side of The Moon, which everyone knows. I think this one was overlooked and it should have been one of the popular ones.

This is a good Pink Floyd album but second level compared to Dark Side of The Moon and The Wall. A great album to play while your busy doing something else.

Animals may not have been the Floyd's most successful release, but it is overlooked easily. My personal favorites are Pigs on the Wing (Part 1) and Sheep. A final glimmer of hope before the gloom and doom of The Wall lingers.

This album is tied with Piper at the Gates of dawn as my favorite Pink Floyd album. Glimours giutar playing is amzing and the best song is Dogs. If you're new to Floyd this should be the first album to buy.

If I had to describe this album in one word, it would be "Wow." I am a huge fan of Pink Floyd and love every album by them, but Animals just blows all of them right out of the water. I'll review each of the songs individually. My personal favorite on this CD is the epic song Dogs. It starts off slowly with David Gilmour playing an acoustic guitar, but the song builds up emotion little by little. It eventually breaks out into a guitar solo (one of my all time favorites) with a fast moving part and then a slower and more emotional section. Then the bridge comes into picture and lasts a few minutes, and after the bridge is 3 minutes of filler with a synthesizer and dogs barking in the background. When all this is over, we hear the same acoustic tune playing as we did at the start of the song, and it breaks out into another verse. After this bridge comes a second guitar solo that seems pretty similar to the first one. Immediately following it is the emotional ending, where Roger Waters recites a poem. Then comes the song Pigs (Three Different Ones), which is actually my least liked on the album, yet still a great song. In the beginning we hear a pig squealing and then comes Rick Wright's organ work that always sends shivers down my spine. The song eventually breaks down into three sections (with the sounds of squealing being played on Gilmour's guitar in the middle), each verse criticizing different groups of people. Pigs ends on a short guitar solo. Finally comes Sheep. It starts off with Wright playing a peaceful little melody on the piano with the sounds of birds and sheep in the background. Then out of nowhere comes the craziness and madness of the song. Waters sings two verses and the song breaks off into an odd middle section. Finally, we hear the last verse and the song ends with Gilmour playing the same tune on his guitar over and over for 2 minutes. Sheep is my fourth favorite Pink Floyd song, still behind Dogs which is third. All in all, the whole concept of the album is to compare animals to humans, each animal representing a different group of people. It is definitely a very dark album, but is a rock masterpiece with some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard on a CD. An absolute must buy for anybody.

Animals is my favorite album by Pink Floyd, maybe even all time. It honestly does not get much better than this. The three major songs all get a 10/10 and have some awesome guitar playing in all of them. Any Pink Floyd fan who doesn't have this MUST pick this up today

I've always been a fan of 60's through 70's rock. I was convinced I heard everything. From the classics like Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Doors to underrated bands such as Love and The Velvet Underground (yes, The Velvet Underground is underrated). Then, I was introduced to Pink Floyd. I got high and then went out with a few friends. We met this one guy and he gave me Animals. I immideatley put it into my CD Player and my mind exploded. It reamains the most amazing album I've ever heard. The best by Pink Floyd, the best of it's genre (whatever that may be), the best of it's era, and the best of all time. I highly recommend you get your hands on this album...

I am the ultimate Pink Floyd fan and this is by far my favorite album. Never got much air play on commercial radio, Dogs is too long, Pigs 3 different ones contains the F-word. Get the Head phones out and listent to Roger Waters' haunting lyrics, David Gilmour's crisp guitar notes and Rick Wright's eerie key board sounds.

Before buying it, I looked at the cover art and thought it was meant to be comedic. After listening to the album, the only comedic concept is the personification of the animals. This is, as critics say, a very dark album. In some of their albums, Floyd will sing a few dark songs then resolve it with at least a quasi-happy song. All these songs are strange, but excellent. I enjoy the fact that they can write a 17 minute song and make it very listenable. Although not their best, this is a buy-able album.

This is the absolutely best pink floyd albums out that was released. It has great lyrics and melody and comepletely covers how the human race is. I suggest every Pink Floyd fan to buy this. It is simply amazing.

Pigs on the Wing Pts. I and II are both acoustically sound, although short, they leave an impact, and Dogs moves listeners and left me not just shocked but wanting more. Musically Sound, as I say, because it is pretty much perfect, I'd give it six stars but that isn't an option

Many people are complaining that this album is nihilistic and cold, but this is only true if one ignores Pigs on the Wing. The opening and closing tracks clearly define the rest of the album as what would happen "If you didn't care what happened to me and I didn't care for you". Just as Dark side of the Moon is meant to display the most pessimistic worldview possible (the dark side), Animals shows how the world would be if people subscribed to such a worldview. One cannot understand a Pink Floyd album if one doesn't listen to it carefully, and this is just as true of Animals as it is of Meddle, The Wall and The Final Cut. Musically, Animals is a new peak for the band. Gilmour in particular is better than ever as he plays ominously on Dogs, lazily on Pigs, and franticly on Sheep. With The Wall, and its decidedly internal speculation, just around the corner, Animals provides a social warning closer to The Final Cut or Corporal Clegg than to Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon, or The Wall. Animals, both musically and psychologically, is Pink Floyd at their best, and the last album on which they truly worked together as a band. A must-listen.

This album is my personal favorite, and though Dark Side and The Wall grab all the glory I feel that this album is still the most rewarding to listen to. I don't believe that it's allegorical as much as it is equivocal; it's a nihilistic statement to the effect that all humans are really no different from animals. As far as music goes, David Gilmour absolutely shines out on this record, his solos being the most expressive I've heard. Forget metal shredders who wank around playing scales up and down, Gilmour chooses his notes with the precision of a true artist.

In my opinion, this is by far the best Floyd album ever!!! Davids guitar, Richards keyboard, Rogers bass and Nicks drums have not ever sound better. The vocals of David and Roger and the music just engulf and surround you like no other Pink Floyd album. I found the best way to enjoy this classic piece of music history is through headphones. Listen to the vocals as they trail off in to Richards keyboards. Feel Nicks drums and Rogers bass roll through you and Davids guitar howl and make your skin tingle!!! Listen to the words and how the music blend together like no other. You Will Not Go Wrong With This Album, Promise...

This is definetely one of Pink Floyds better albums. It seems because of the dark and dismal lyrics it gets shunned by even most Pink Floyd fans. It's not like Roger Waters wanted it to be that way, but it's how the metaphors to society played out in the music. I also heard that Animals is based off of George Orwell's book, Animal Farm, which may have something to do with it, although I'm not sure.

This is David Gilmours best Pink Floyd session. No electric guitarist has ever recorded a blues/rock album like this and I doubt one ever will.

This may be one of Pink Floyd's most underrated albums. Well written, it is almost as if it opens the door to some alternate reality. From track to track it gives a feeling of dispair and unhappiness to it much like "The Wall". A wonderful album that has been one of my favourites ever since I got it. A must for any Pink Floyd or classic rock fan.
