For the animation community, this is a masterwork. Tony White, who's done just about everything in this business, has captured a whole career of wisdom in one book. This is everything: principles, 2D and 3D technique, workflow, tools, business, job hunting, and above all, inspiration.
White's work is subtitled "Classical Techniques for Digital Animators," and that captures its spirit. It's no wonder Roy Disney wrote the foreword. White teaches lessons he first learned at the knees of some of history's greatest animators: the legends who brought Bugs Bunny to life, and Roadrunner, and Pinocchio, and Fantasia.
White brings those principles to life with his remarkable project Endangered Species: "a homage to some of the fine and classic moments of animation." That project appears on CD-ROM, with a scene-by-scene record of how those moments were originally created in "analog" -- and, decades later, re-created digitally.
