For the new raw chef, Phyo (Ani's Raw Food Kitchen) lists kitchen tools and pantry and fridge items and includes a selection of breads (dehydrator required), smoothies, cereals, salads, and cookies—all with a short list of ingredients. Phyo's web site (aniphyo.com) features additional recipes, "uncooking" videos, and information on ingredients and kitchen tools. If you've avoided raw cookbooks in the past, this is a great starter title. Libraries should also consider Stephanie Tourles's complementary Raw Energy. Library marketing.

I got this book because I have a lot of food allergies and was looking for something where I wouldn't have to tweak every recipe. I don't eat 100% raw food all the time, but this book has got me thinking about it. It's because I realize it wouldn't be that hard to make delicious food that helps me feel good and helps me stay within my budget. For most of the recipes all you need is a sharp knife, a good blender, and/or a food processor. But others, you would need a dehydrator and a vegetable spiralizer. I recently bought a spiralizer and love it, but I haven't invested in a dehydrator yet. But that isn't a huge deal because Ani Phyo gives you tips on how to make the recipes in the oven on a low temperature instead. These recipes are very simple; in fact, in many ways I prefer them over the cooked versions. I highly recommend this book.

I really like this author. I like the way that she looks at diet and living on this earth in a holistic fashion, ecologically and fiscally responsible.
