I have followed this band since they first released their EP several years ago. This album is for the most part quite different from its predecessors. The sound clips provided by B&N are not representative of the music as a whole. The songs are much harder edged and fast-paced, with driving rhythms and time-signature changes throughout, the kind of stuff prog rock lovers look for and devour much of the time. Many songs from prior releases by Riverside are hit-worthy and very "singable" to those of you who like to sing or hum along. The songs here are much less so, but nonetheless a major turning point to Riverside. If this band had proper management, they could break through into the American music scene, especially in the progrock arena. They have played East Coast venues before, but most American metal and prog listeners will recognize this band from the Classic Rock and Prog Rock magazines out of the UK, which you can find at your local B&N. You won't be disappointed by this CD if you like bands such as Opeth, Tool, and Pink Floyd. But, Riverside has their own sound, which is a good thing. They even pay homage to Pink Floyd on an earlier CD. By all means, give any CD from this band a listen, and you will find yourself buying all of them - just like I did.Was this review helpful?
