Inquiry has sometimes been made as to what becomes of interest On taxes paid to the collector. The treasurer' S account. Shows the receipt of $239. 44 collected and paid Over on the 1896 taxes. A similar item for $214. 03 ou 1895 list appeared in last year' s report. And we may add that every tax on the collector' S book 1s carefully examined to See when it was paid and Whether the prope1 amount of interest was Collected, and we are pleased to note that the tax-payers SO cheerfully com ply with this reasonable requirement Of interest on over due taxes.
