Overview

Penny Vincenzi, queen of riveting family drama, delivers her most page-turning saga yet in this novel of intrigue, sure to please her legions of fans.
The night before her lavish wedding, Cressida Forrest went to bed serene and happy. By morning she had vanished—without apparent cause, and without a trace. Shocked, anxious, and uncomprehending, the two families face a long day of revelations, as a complex, fragile web of sexual, marital, and financial secrets is ripped apart by Cressida's disappearance.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Vincenzi's newest (afterForbidden Places) is a complicated family saga, filled with lies, unfaithfulness, and unexpected turmoil. In classic Vincenzi fashion, this novel reads like a soap opera, following a massive cast of characters who are poised for sensational melodrama. Cressida Forrest, a high-society English rose, is set to marry a wealthy New York doctor in what will surely be a perfect wedding. However, when the bride and the dress go missing on the big day, friends and family begin an emotionally fraught search. Her disappearance shows no signs of foul play, leaving her loved ones even more confused and distraught. As they begin to look into Cressida's personal life for clues to explain her vanishing, layer after layer of a secret life is peeled away. Meanwhile, the inner demons of other family members are also exposed, rendering Cressida's disappearance a catalyst for myriad dramatic revelations. Few authors can successfully tie together such elaborate storylines and develop such well-maintained characters. Although there are moments when readers will wish one narrative would close so another could be pursued more fully, in the end each one is worthwhile. (Jan.)
From the Publisher
"Penny Vincenzi is poised to fill the gap in the American realm of Cinderella fiction. With so few current writers able to summon the quaint allure of such women's fiction without stooping to sensation." — Janet Maslin, The New York Times

"Penny Vincenzi writes with verve and heart, immersing the reader in a world of engrossing and unforgettable glamour and passion." — Dominick Dunne

"Nobody writes smart, page-turning commercial women's fiction like Vincenzi." — USA Today

"Satisfaction guaranteed." — The Washington Post Book World

"In the genre of juicy literary soap opera, aka women's fiction, Vincenzi's prolific pen demonstrates she is a master at presenting melodrama, heartache, and racy details for which readers will happily suspend disbelief. Vincenzi's lengthy epics satisfy like a box of decadent, luscious chocolates. This offering should draw in readers who enjoy the sweeping works of such saga-weavers as Anne Rivers Siddons and Rosamunde Pilcher." — Booklist

I would appreciate it if you would be more accurate with your publishing date information. Many of the books indicate current publishing dates (such as this one) but was actually published in the UK several years ago. This causes many people to purchase a book they read years ago.

I enjoyed this book - about five years ago. Why is it being marketed as "new"?
