Antelope and Rattlesnake Canyon
Antelope and Rattlesnake canyons are both located on the Navajo Native American Nation. No one may enter any of these locations without being with a Navajo guide. Fortunately there are several guided tour services available for what I feel is a very modest fee. These tours also include transportation which is more than convenient because the way to the canyons is along a wide dry sandy river bed requiring four wheel drive vehicles and maintenance vehicles. In addition, the tribe keeps close watch on the weather upstream from the canyons because if it rains heavily up there the slot canyons will flood. The year before my first visit there nine people were killed in the canyon who had ventured there illegally. For those who may with to visit there an take good images, be certain to take a tripod. The light inside the canyon a very dim and a tripod is necessary. As a quick aside the Navajo guides informed me that February is the best month to visit because it is less crowed and easier for photographers. Check the weather before planning a visit for correct attire.
This is a photography book; it does not explain or attempt to teach you about photography, in Arizona or anywhere else. One of the greatest pleasures about photography is experimenting to see if the image you capture resembles the image you had in your mind when you took it.
