Overview

At their best, Quicksilver Messenger Service sounded like a blend of early Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and the Grateful Dead, but almost constant personnel changes kept them from truly evolving into what they could have been. This set collects outtakes from a 1967 studio session, live tracks from a pair of concerts at the Fillmore in 1966 and 1967, live tracks from a concert at the Fillmore East in 1968, live tracks from a concert at Winterland in 1970, and tracks from a performance at the Old Mill Tavern, also from 1970. There's also a DVD featuring video footage from various shows the group played between 1967 and 1973. The sound is decent, and there are many times when the band rises to the occasion, but this is definitely a set for serious fans and collectors only.
