Devoted to project managing in the field of software development, this management guide attempts to locate and describe common bad practices, labeled "anti-patterns", and offer solutions. Anti-patterns in the areas of people, technology, and process are identified and their causes, symptoms, and results are described. For each anti-pattern presented, solutions are offered on avoiding the problem or extracting software development programs already suffering from the problem. Annotation c. Good for some quick perspective

I have not yet read the first two books in this series, and perhaps I should have, as they assume you have. Still, this is a good book for gaining insight and perspective on the world of project managment and the various things that can and will go wrong. Their solutions are sometimes too simplistic, and their approach is mostly geared toward larger software companies, but most all of this book is valid and applicable. The authors seem a bit pretentious, but their work smacks of truth and experience. I question their assumption that project managers can quickly diagnose the problems they face and quickly find the appropriate solution in this book, but only because I doubt the ability of project managers to remove themselves from their problems enough to think so clearly about the symptoms and causes. If a person can do that, this book is helpful. Even if not, this book could help provide some of that perspective to help think clearly about the problem at hand.
