Library Journal - Library Journal
Newly renamed (it was originally Guide to the Antique Shops of Britain), the publication from the Antique Collectors Club is the latest edition of an annual series and covers much the same area as the above book, though auction houses appear in a section apart from the other listings. The London entry is also separate and organized by postal code. The maps preceding the regional listings are large, well printed, and quite clear. Entries include the same information as Miller s, with the addition of map coordinates for larger towns and information as to the exact location of the shops, sometimes even including driving directions that will be helpful to anyone unfamiliar with the area. Services, fairs, specialist dealers, a dealers index, and an alphabetical listing of towns and villages with their counties complete the work. This hardcover is a bit heavier than Miller s to carry around, but it does stay open and can be photocopied for day trips, thus lightening the packing load. There are few differences in the numbers of listings, but the Guide is usually more comprehensive than Miller s, offering a wider range of information to international antiques shoppers unfamiliar with British geography. Miller s lists the fairs by month and date (the Guide does it by region), which may be of help in travel plans. However, the Guide would be the recommended purchase for library and personal use.
