Antislavery Political Writings, 1833-1860: A Reader

Thompson (history and political science, Ashland U.) has three goals in mind in presenting these essays and excerpts of antislavery political writing from 1836 to 1860. In addition to the wish of highlighting the best writing, he hopes to demonstrate the range of theoretical and political choices during the period and explore the general problem of reconciling theory and practice. The 20 selections include works by Frederick Douglass, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Abraham Lincoln, and William Lloyd Garrison. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
