Max Lucado Antiono Meets His Match

This is the first Max Lucado video I have ever seen. I am a huge fan of his books and was excited to receive this in the mail and watch it. I put it in for my 3 year old and I was surprised that it didn't hold his attention. I however, absolutley loved it. The story, the animation and the characters. I found it to be a great DVD and will be playing it for him again in the near future.

I loved how it focused on being neighborly and accepting others no matter how different. I will reccomend this video for a gift for any child. I think adults would enjoy watching it with their children as well.

This is a great video for home, Grandparent's, in the car, as a gift or just because.

    Love it!

I remember having very choices when it came to finding children's videos with a good message when my kids were younger. Today, it seems there are more choices, but I think it's still important to be picky and only choose those movies that have a good message. I recently had the opportunity to review Antonio Meets His Match, the newest DVD to release from Max Lucado's Hermie and Friends Series. We have one of the other movies from this series and really like it...so I was hopeful that we'd enjoy this one just as much.

Having young grandchildren, it's very important to me that I have a collection of wholesome movies to choose from. After having had the opportunity to watch this DVD, I can tell you that it's one I'm proud to have on my shelf! The kids seem to really enjoy it. I'm not sure how much they got from the message of 'being a good neighbor', but I still feel like some of had to of sunk in. As they get older, it will make even more sense...and loving thy neighbor is an important thing for us all to remember.

I really enjoyed the movie. I thought it was animated very well...it didn't look cheaply made at all! I also liked the focus of the story. Antonio was the head ant in a way, because all the other ants looked up to him. When foreign ants moved into the garden, he wanted them to leave, but God reminded him that he must love his neighbors. It's definitely a hard lesson, but one I think all children should learn and hear over and over again. I would highly recommend this DVD to any parent, or grandparent!

    Good Message

I always enjoy finding wholesome movies for my kids to watch....something that teaches a good lesson and is age appropriate. That's why I was excited to have the opportunity to review the latest DVD to release from Max Lucado's Hermie and Friends Series: Antonio Meets His Match.

When it arrived in the mail, Kaelyn was very eager to watch it. She saw the front cover which immediately sparked her curiosity. I let her watch it, and to my surprise...she sat through most of it (that doesn't happen very often with a two year old :)). What I like most about this movie was that the focus was on loving your neighbor...a lesson that's important for everyone...both children and adults alike.

In this movie, Antonio is looked up to as the brave ant for the way he leads his army ants and defends the garden. When other foreign ants move into the garden, Antonio would like to make them leave, but is reminded by God that each one of us is to love our neighbor. I don't want to give away the movie, but let's just say that although it's not easy for Antonio and his friends to accept the new ants, they work on loving their neighbors.

I thought this movie was very well made and would recommend it to any parent looking for a wholesome children's movie with a good message.

    Antonio Meets His Match

Antonio Meets His Match is the latest release from Max Lucado's Hermie and Friends Series. The focus of this DVD is the importance of loving your neighbor. After an introduction by Lucado, the viewer is introduced to Antonio. He has long been considered the leader of the ants. It appears he may loose his special place in the ant world when some "foreign" ants move into the garden. Antonio's first inclination is to throw the new ants out of the garden, but through God's intervention Antonio takes a different course. Upon the conclusion of the story Lucado provides further discussion of the key theme (loving your neighbor) of the DVD. His manner in both the introduction and wrap up is warm and pleasant.

I wish some of the warmth and gentleness displayed by Lucado was more evident in the animated characters. None of them were particularly likable. Although the DVD is rated for all ages, I think the best target audience for the DVD is probably early elementary aged boys. The aggressiveness of the ants and the conflict within the video makes it potentially disturbing for very young (pre-school aged) viewers.

Although not a hit for our home, I do think that little boys would potentially truly enjoy this animated story which shares an important biblical lesson.

While this complimentary DVD was provided for review, no other compensation was given. All remarks are my personal and honest opinions.

14th entry in Hermie & Friends series is another winner

Antonio Meets His Match is the 14th episode in the popular Hermie and Friends series by Max Lucado. In this story, Antonio the ant has a new neighbor, Angus, who really gets on his nerves, but God tells Antonio to love Angus. First Mia's review: You know why I really love the Hermie movies? Because they teach us about God. God made MaxLucado special - I love his stories. The movie was awesome. It's funny when everyone keeps calling Angus' kilt a skirt. Antonio kept getting hit on his head with a golf ball; it was hilarious. I felt bad for Hermie and Antonio when they tried to be nice and the neighbors were mean to them. I liked the beat and music to Angus' song, but I didn't like the words because he's so mean! It's really hard to love someone who is calling you names, but God tells us that we have to try. I learned something about myself in this movie: I love bagpipes!Caterpilla at the end is better than the Cinderella story. I laughed so hard when all of the fairies showed up at the end! Now my review: we're big fans of the Hermie movies here because of the bright animation and excellent messages about God and His word. This DVD focuses on loving your neighbor even when they are "so annoying!" God tells Antonio that He doesn't say to "put up with" our neighbors but to love them as He loves us. Antonio puts up with a lot of abuse from Angus and friends, but he does his best to love him anyway, giving a powerful example to children on how to handle teasing and bullies. The short film at the end,Caterpilla, thrilled Mia and had a different message about seeking God's will in our lives instead of always chasing our own desires. Lucado speaks to children in a way they understand and inserts plenty of humor to keep their interest. Mia has watched the movie several times already, so it will keep their attention as well.

GREAT way to teach your children about God's LOVE!

Upon opening the DVD, my 3 yr old daughter was immediately thrilled and ready to watch it! We began movie, and even my 16 month old son sat through the entire show (which doesn't happen often). Throughout the entire show, my daughter laughed and interacted with the characters, and, when it was finished, she wanted to watch it again. She would definitely recommend the movie!

While, I do enjoy the Hermie DVDs, as a mom, I am always hesitant to offer my recommendations on a movie that I myself have not watched in its entirety. However, I must say that I love the lesson that is so clearly taught through this cute story."to love your neighbor as yourself " (Luke 10:27). Antonio Ant is known as the bravest of the brave in the garden. He always wins the strength competition, but also uses his strength to often help his neighbors, too. When the garden becomes home to a group of Scottish ants, Angus being the main "new" character, Antonio is looked to for help in ridding the garden of these different (and quite annoying) new neighbors. But, when Antonio talks to God concerning his annoying new neighbor and the garden friends' desire to have them gone, God answers by telling him that he should "love as I have loved you." We see Hermie and friends learning what it means to truly love, despite differences.

The Bible truths are solid, the characters are loveable and funny, and the songs and music are great! I didn't see anything in the movie that I would question. I recommend this to anyone with younger children. It's a great way to reinforce God's command to love.

A wonderful way to teach little ones of God's Love!

I thoroughly enjoyed sitting down to watch this DVD with my grandchildren. Max Lucado's use of Bible lessons for the little ones was absolutely fantastic. My grandsons were highly engrossed in this story. They laughed and smiled through the whole thing as Antonio was learning to love his new(and very frustrating!) neighbor the way he would want to be loved. I thought that it was a wonderful thing to do when the creators of this DVD had Antonio speaking to God up in the sky about what he should do to resolve his problem and feelings. And having God speak back to Antonio, telling him "to love as I have loved you" was truly remarkable. I highly recommend this DVD to all parents and grandparents who want their children to learn the true meaning of loving others as God loves us all. It would also make a wonderful Sunday School DVD for the little ones to watch.

    Antonio Meets His Match

Antonio is the strongest ant in the garden. He comes in number one in all the competitions. The fame of his athletic prowess is lauded in the whole garden. One day a rude and annoying ant shows up and tests Antonio's patience. This is the story of God guiding Antonio to do the right thing and love his neighbor.

I truly enjoy watching Hermie movies with my daughter. This dvd was not as good as the other Hermie dvds we have seen, but it is a good movie none the less. There is a good lesson contained in the story. I find it hard to love annoying and hurtful people myself and this story offers us a poignant reminder to pray for those who persecute us.

There is a short at the end of the movie that I did not care for called Caterpilla. I don't really see how a story about fairies aids in teaching my daughter about Christ. All in all, it was still cute.

New Hermie DVD: Antonio Meets His Match

There is a new Hermie DVD that Hermie lovers like myself are going to be enjoying very soon. It's called Antonio Meets His Match.

I first learned about Hermie at church. Last year our group activities were all based on Hermie, so even though I'm 8, I still like watching Hermie DVD's. The lesson of this DVD was to love your neighbors and that you don't always get what you want. My favorite part was when everyone's wish came true because they realized they already had everything they wanted.

I recommend this DVD for church lessons. It's one hour long and the DVD has some coloring pages that you can print on your computer. There is a also a fun trivia game, sing-along, and read-along (really a pray-along) that you can play on your computer.

I give it five stars. Kids who like caterpillars and insects will like this DVD too. I recommend this for ages 2-10, but kids 4-8 will probably enjoy it the most.

I received this DVD from BookSneeze.com, and you can receive things for review too if you have a blog.

    Definitely recommend this movie

My kids love Hermie, and as a mama trying to find good, wholesome entertainment for my kids, I love anything Max Lucado writes. This time we were fortunate to receive a Hermie and Friends DVD from Book Sneeze (Tommy Nelson), Antonio Meets His Match.

Based on the verse Luke 10:27, Love your neighbor as you love yourself (ICB), this movie delves into the important topic of loving your neighbors. In today's world, this is even more important to be teaching our children. When some new Scottish neighbors move into the garden, Antonio's territory or reputation, per se, as the bravest, strongest ant is threatened. Even the peace of the garden seems threatened, as Antonio and his friends are forced to listen to those bagpipes play over and over again. These new ants aren't exactly easy to love, and Antonio has a hard time loving them. Even though God tells him to love his neighbors, he doesn't quite grasp that concept until a competition gets out of hand, possibly forcing Antonio to leave the home he's always known, his garden. Along comes Big Bully Croaker, though, and as these new neighbors are settling in to enjoy their victory, they might just need the help of Antonio, if they want to escape. Neighborly love is then shown in action, showing children that even though someone might wrong us, God still commands us to love that person.

With entertaining characters, colorful backgrounds, and the voices of experienced actors Tim Conway, Fred Willard, and Sam Mercurio, this movie was a lot of fun to watch. I especially got a kick out of the Scottish ants doing their Riverdance-like moves and driving everyone crazy with their bagpipes. LOL It was such an adorable movie for kids, and not just that, but it had a real life lesson behind the story, one that kids (or adults) can apply to their own lives. Also included is a cartoon short at the end called, "Caterpilla." There is bonus material on the DVD, as well, including coloring pages, computer wallpapers, a read-along story, a sing-along, trivia game, and much more. I definitely recommend this DVD for any child.

(Disclosure: I was provided this DVD, free of charge, by Tommy Nelson, in association with BookSneeze; all opinions expressed are my own.)
