This book saved my life. I was such a mess and suffered panic attacts. I didn't even want to leave my house. I baught this book and my life changed competely. It was hard work but I followed this book and finally got my life back. The doctor had me on so many pills I didn't know if I was comming or going. I purchased this tittle a few years ago. The dog eared pages were evedince of a much used book, however I borrowed it out to a friend who borrowed it out and so on. I can't truly express how much this book helped me out. I even brought this book with to my doctors office who bought a copy and recommends it to other patients. Of the MANY books I have purchased to read about this crippeling frightening disorder this is by far the best read and the most helpful. It is so so easy to read. It is also written from a sufferer's point of view, not a doctor's who might think they know how it feels to endure a true panic/anxiety attack. The author himself endured them for years in fact he even became agoraphobic. That in itself is a true inspiration to anybody who suffers from mild to extreme attacks. If this is your first book I recommend you look no further, if you are still searching than you have found the most concise and fantasticly written book on the subject. Do yourself a favor buy the book and get some relief and insight. I did now I am buying another copy to have on hand for anyone who may need it in my circle of friends and family.

Ok - I tried very hard to like this book - I had originally thought it to be written by the husband of an old friend who had so many funny anecdotes about it .  I was wrong.  On both counts.   This book has a casual tone, almost conversational, but instead of progressing the read, it became quite trite.  I have really taken it upon myself to learn as much about the condition as possible to  better understand a new friend.  This book really seemed to miss the mark re a more intelligent understanding of the disorder.  While glad that Mr. Handy made such an excellent recovery from his condition,  I really didn't really get a sense of how his experiences, while mildly entertaining, transferred to actually helping others who suffer from the same problem.  So, mildly interesting, often a little self important,   and in the end, just a little disappointing, this book would best serve a reader looking for a couple of witty anecdotes.  I'm back to Google to try to find aforementioned friend's husband's book.
