Anxiety is not always psychological but rather a disease that can now be controlled. The symptoms are devastating: sudden unprovoked attacks of anxiety-accompanied by skipping and racing of the heart, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, dizzy spells. Even worse is the fear that you are losing your mind. But here's the good news. The more unexpected and unprovoked the attacks or the symptoms, the more likely that the victim is suffering from a biologically beset disease. What's more, medical science can now overcome this disease in virtually all cases through a combination of drugs and behavior therapy. Dr. David V. Sheenan, formerly of the Havard Medical School, is now the Director of Research of the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He draws upon recent research and his own pioneering breakthroughs in the treatment of anxiety to present in this book: -Quizzes that will help you determine whether your anxiety is caused by normal stress or is the result of a genetically influenced physical disorder. Seven progressive stages of the disease-and the four steps necessary for recovery. Detailed case histories of former anxiety victims who are now leading full and productive lives. Reassurance and guidance to family members and friends who want to help, but don't know how. This book offers new hope to millions of men and women across the country.

    A REAL DIFFERENCE

Hi! I have been told from my Internal medicine doctor that I suffer from panic disorder and this was confirmed by a psychiatrist. I find it so hard to believe that such physical discomfort can be caused by stress. It has to be a heart problem...it just has to be. My psychiatrist told me to read the book THE ANXIETY DISEASE and to also get the workbook.....so I did. Upon initially reading this book, I actually started to get SCARED. I thought that somehow, someway, I was being followed around by someone because this book was EXACTLY about me. It was actually scary. Each and every time that I read it, it felt much better to know that I too, am not alone. Noone understands what's happening to you unless they have walked a mile in your shoes. This is really ironic....Infact yesterday, I was taken out of my job by ambulance and taken to the hospital, which turned out to be a panic attack. At any rate, the fantastic paramedic I had shared a personal story with me on the way to the hospital. He told me that he too suffered from panic attacks. He actually told me how I felt. It was amazing that there was another person who actually felt like I do. His last words to me were....Did you ever read the book THE ANXIETY DISEASE? My eyes opened wide and I started to cry. I told him about my doctors and he said that he was turned on to that book a few years ago by the mother of a girl that he was dating. I explained to him that the book made me feel much better at first, but now when I read it, I become very anxious and my heart starts palpitating. He was really surprised, but told me to try and continue reading because the book helped him overcome his problem. Does anyone out there know why this happens to me when I pick the book up to read it. Initially, reading this book helped me, but now I'm afraid. I KNOW DEEP IN MY HEART THAT THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC!!!!!It must be something that I'm not able to accept yet. When this fear leaves I can guarantee you that I WILL CONTINUE reading this excellent book. Thanks for being there and being able to help so many people by using your expertise in writing this book. If anyone out there has an answer for me, please e-mail me at KnczlPt@aol.com THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!

    A great book for understanding

My boyfriend suffers from Anxiety Disorder and by reading this book it has really helped me have a better understanding of what he goes through during an anxiety attack. I think this has also brought us closer together and he's more comfortable talking to me about it.
