As a teacher of second graders, this one has turned up again and again as a class favorite. The subtleties of the illustrations blend with the text to produce a clever, hilarious story about a boy who wants a REAL dog. Its simple, repetitive text often serves as a terrific beginning-to-read book that totally engrosses its young (and old) readers again and again. My students love to predict what will happen next prior to turning each page. Repeat reads only get better as they discover yet another catastrophe previously unnoticed in each illustration!
