Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The "Mama Mirabelle's Home Movies" books from National Geographic are based on the TV series. The books aim to impart information about our world, and the themes vary. In this story, the focus is on animal homes. A problem is presented—Dib and Dab appear to be two lost birds, and Mama Mirabelle and her friends want to help them find their home. The cartoon style ends here, as Mama starts to show movies of real animals in their habitats. Information about hermit crabs, cheetahs, zebras, elephants, and several birds is painlessly imparted. Finally Dib and Dab see something familiar. They are cliff swallows who build mud nests. The baby birds are joyfully reunited with their family, and Mama Mirabella and friends are very pleased that they were able to help. The back inside cover contains information about two of the animals and also the "Movie Time" song. The back cover contains images with text printed on the verso, which can be cut up to create trading cards. Therefore, this book is more of a personal purchase, since libraries and schools would have to guard against kids cutting out the trading cards. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
