Overview

Anything Can be Dangerous contains four amazing stories, plus a preview to the highly praised novel Husk, by Matt Hults. The stories include:

Anything can be Dangerous ~ the simple things in life can kill.

Through the Valley of Death ~ a dark vampire story that will make you remember fear.

The Finger ~ zombie literature has never been so extraordinary.

Feeding Frenzy ~ lunchtime in a place called Hell.

Husk ~ this is what people are saying about Husk:

"Matt Hults delivers a crackling, creepy tale. A fast-paced read with a generous body count, 'Husk' will make your skin crawl."

-Scott Nicholson, Bestselling author of They Hunger

"Remember the first time you read Joe Lansdale's The Drive-In, or Freezer Burn? Remember how exhilarated you felt as you tore through the pages as Lansdale kept knocking your jaw to the floor with his endless inventiveness, unexpected belly-laughs, and those even more unexpected moments of terror and pathos? Miss that feeling of being completely at the mercy of a writer's imagination and boundless energy for his subject? Fret no more, friends-you now have Matt Hults's Husk. This sucker is the real thing, an in-your-face, rollicking, scary, funny, and unexpectedly poignant potpourri of a horror story, an unabashed and unapologetic throwback to the early pulps infused with a vindictive modern-day sensibility that will have your head spinning and your mouth hanging open. It doesn't get any more fun than this."

-Gary A. Braunbeck, winner of the Bram Stoker Award and International Horror Guild Award, author of Coffin County and Destinations Unknown

"Suspenseful and gruesome, with just the right leavening of hopefulness and nod-wink humor."

-Dr. Kim Paffenroth, Bram Stoker Award Winner for Dying to Live.

"Husk is wild, bloody, scary, action-packed, and entertaining as hell. Matt Hults seems to be having a blast telling his tale, and I had a blast going along for the ride. Great fun!"

-Jeff Strand, Bram Stoker Nominated Author of PRESSURE

"'Husk' is a chilling and relentless tale that will make you want to check your closets, lock your windows and keep an eye in your review mirror...but don't think that'll save you!"

--Fran Friel, Bram Stoker Nominated Author of Mama's Boy

"Husk is violent, intense and terrifying. The characters are as real as you and I, and every triumph is rapturous while every death is harrowing. Matt Hults proves himself as a master of the genre with his striking debut novel. It will leave you feeling skinned alive and dying for more."

-Joel A. Sutherland, Bram Stoker Nominated Author of Frozen Blood

"I have come across some pretty mind-blowing demons on paper, on the big screen, and especially in my mind. But the 'Husk' Matt Hults created in this his first novel breaks all my thresholds for fear, and believe me I have built some pretty sound barriers in my time."

-Giovanna Lagana, author of With Black & White Comes the Grey

I'm not normally a big fan of short stories, but this one worked for me. Creepy, gross and action packed, this book will keep you up late reading.

I read the first story "Anything Can Be Dangerous" and thought it was well written and scary in a bizarre and twisted way. I am a die-hard Stephen King fan and this writer managed to have my heart racing by the end of this short story. I read the second story "Feeding Frenzy" and was dying for more. I am not happy that the writer likes to end the story with absolutely no resolution to it. I got all worked up and was hoping for some scary ending and got NONE !!! I read the second story with the same hopes and was again disappointed. I am going to read the rest of the book and hope for more. Mr. Hults... please give us more to your stories and scare us more. (I do have to say that I thought twice about getting plastic bags to take my groceries home afterwards.)

This is an anthology of four exemplary novellettes/novellas. The four stories manage to hit the high notes of the horror genre -- zombies, vampires, post-apocalyptic, and gore/slasher. It has been awhile since any horror story made me flinch, but "The Finger" had me kind of vomiting in my mouth for a moment. This story is perfect balanced against "Through Valley of Death" where a family wanders where they shouldn't. Then there is the hysterical humor (as in crazed laughter) of "Feeding Frenzy" juxtaposed against the hero and his memories of his mother in "Anything Can Be Dangerous." Delightful e-book, currently for free from both Barnes and Noble and Amazon, with a plethora of free samples in the back. Definitely a keeper, and I can't wait to read the samples.

None of the stories could be considered "horrific" or "intense". Frankly, they made little sense and were in dire need of a descriptive overhaul. Once again, a free book that proves you get what you pay for.

I was pleasantly surprised by this, freebies can be hit and miss. The first story was a nice new concept and had some good creepy moments. The second one was my favorite. The third was my least favorite but even that was entertaining. Looking forward to reading more by this fellow Minnesotan.

I am pleased to have found a free collection of short stories that also happened to be well written and with interesying stories to tell. I was left wanting more. This is some fantastically creepy and somewhat gory stuff! I would recommend this collection.

This is a great little book. The stories are new and interesting and it is unlike so many of the books that I've read before. If you like Stephen King you will like this.

I have since thrown away all my plastic grocery bags (once kept on hand for lunch and general use)...and Hefty bags - I can no longer look at my shower caps as innocuous waifts of cellophane. Thoroughly enjoyed the stories. The resulting psychosis - not so much.

Several short stories in the horror/comedy genre. Usually not quite my cup of tea but it's alright and it's good when I bored and/or want a quick read instead of starting or resuming a book more of my interest. That's my reasoning for not giving it five stars but still giving it upwards of four. Also because it is quite creative and original. I imagine someone who enjoys this genre would really enjoy this book and I do not believe this book deserves a lower than average rating from someone who simply doesn't like it because regardless of interest, it's a well written book that deserves appreciation for that and, as I already said before, it's creativity and originality. It's just probably not a book that most would want to sit down and get into and that's okay, it's still great for something quick.
