ABOUT THIS BOOK   REA’s AP U.S. History Crash Course is the first book of its kind for the last-minute studier or any AP student who wants a quick refresher on the course. The Crash Course is based upon a careful analysis of the AP U.S. History Course Description outline and actual AP test questions. Written by an expert who has studied the AP U.S. History (APUSH) exam content for 20 years, our easy-to-read format gives students a crash course in the major ideas and events in U.S. history. The targeted review chapters prepare students for the exam by only focusing on the important topics tested on the AP U.S. History exam. Unlike other test preps, REA’s Crash Course gives you a review specifically focused on what you really need to study in order to ace the APUSH exam. Our review is broken down into specific topics and themes, offering you two ways to study the material – chronologically, or by key themes and facts. The introduction begins with a discussion of seven keys for success and a glossary of 41 terms you absolutely, positively have to know. Part Two is composed of review chapters arranged in chronological order. Each chapter presents the essential information you need to know about important time periods in U.S. History. The third section is made up of chapters devoted to key themes in American History, with particular attention focused on African American history and women’s history. Finally, the Crash Course concludes with chapters that present strategies for successfully answering multiple-choice questions, the document-based essay question, and the free-response essays. No matter how or when you prepare for the AP U.S. History exam, REA’s Crash Course will show you how to study efficiently and strategically, so you can boost your score!  If you would like to assess your test readiness for the AP U.S. History exam after studying this Crash Course, you can access a complimentary full-length AP U.S. History practice exam at www.rea.com/crashcourse. This true-to-format test includes detailed explanations of all answers and will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses before taking the actual exam. Good luck on your AP U.S. History exam!   Author’s Pep TalkWhy write another AP United States History test preparation book? Bookstore shelves already contain a bewildering number of AP U.S. History (APUSH) books all claiming they will raise your scores. But will they really help you succeed? Do they provide you with the best information and the most useful strategies? I don’t think they do. That is why I have written this book. REA’s AP U.S. History Crash Course is completely different from other test preps and study guides on the market today. Most APUSH test preps are often nothing more than slightly abridged versions of your textbook. The authors indiscriminately fill their books with facts, dates, Supreme Court cases, and endless acts of Congress for fear of leaving something out. In contrast, this Crash Course is deliberately selective. I don’t include any extraneous information that is unlikely to appear on your exam. Instead, my targeted review chapters only focus on the important topics tested on the AP U.S. History exam.  The information presented in this book is based on a close study of all the released AP United States History exams. Contrary to popular belief, College Board test writers do not write questions on an unlimited number of topics. Their questions are designed to test key points on the Topic Outline contained in the College Board’s United States History Course Description booklet. Because of this limitation, APUSH questions are actually focused on a limited number of key topics.  In short, this AP U.S. History Crash Course provides you with the information, tips, and strategies you need to succeed on the APUSH exam. I have been teaching AP courses for more than 30 years, and all of my students have scored a 3 or above. If you take the time and study this book, you will also achieve a high score.  So what are you waiting for? REA’s AP U.S. History Crash Course will give you “A Higher Score in Less Time—Guaranteed!”

I bought this book and the complete REA one and studied both sim

I bought this book and the complete REA one and studied both simultaneously throughout the year. I liked the timeline part of this book and found the topics defined in a super simple and useful way. If you're planning on purchasing this make sure you know that this is equivalent to studying off of flashcards. I would recommend buying the huge REA Apush one too. It gives you important details that this one doesnt cover. If you're last minute studying with a couple of weeks before the test. Read this book and go to the multiple choice on the complete REA one and you'll be ready!
    I got a 5.

    GREAT REVIEW BOOK

This review book really saved my life in APUSH. I read this book multiple times during my preparation for the APUSH test and found it extremely useful and easy to reference. Unlike other study books, it is small and gave me only the information that I needed, making studying much more practical and easy. I could also reference it easily to double check a fact or date quickly during review sessions, something that would have taken much longer in a larger, more complex study book. APUSH Crash Course is seperated into chapters that seperate US history into its different time periods, which really helped me to better classify events, terms, and people. Also provided within the outline style review of US history, are tips on what is especially important to and minded by the AP test makers on the actual AP exam. This book makes multiple references to past tests which helped me get a better idea of what was to be expected on the exam. Conveniently included as well are tips and strategies for the multiple choice, free response, and document based questions. Not to mention the fact that this green edition book was printed on recycled paper makes it very desirable and preferable. I would recommend this book to EVERY APUSH student. It will help you tremendously!!

    Great for Procrasinators

This study guide is perfect for procrasinators who wait until the last minute to study. ITs straight to the point and tells you which points will show up on the test. Presents the information in three differents forms so its easier to remember. It did wonders to me since I have a lazy teacher who passes worksheets out but anyways great overall

    Great for concise review

This book worked very well for my students APUSH review. It is clear, concise, and well-organized for reviewing U.S. History. I liked the way it was organized in several different formats to allow students multiple methods for mapping historical themes and facts for study. I highly suggest this book AFTER studying U. S. History.

Great for Reading the Day Before Test

I purchased this a week before the test and read 50% on the day before the test and the other 50% on the day after the test. Some questions on the AP asked about exactly what this book outlined. Even though it's really short, don't undermine its effectiveness: the author knows exactly what to know to get just enough points to get a 5. Also, the material is repeated over and over again (because this book has two sections: Chronological review and Key Points), so it really sticks in your head. Highly Recommended!

    Makes reviewing easy

This book was really great - I never understood study guides that are the length of textbooks, but this one is different. It's short, sweet, and to the point, with bulleted lists of key facts, people, etc. that you absolutely need to know, sorted by time period. It also has separate lists for women's and African-American history, etc. which was helpful.

It's not going to give you a 5 if you didn't pay attention at all in the class, but this was basically the only way I studied old material outside of class and I got a 5 on the exam. I highly recommend it, especially if you know you can't bring yourself to read or re-read longer, denser materials.
