I found Apart From You an intriguing story that touched on many of my most cherished values, especially concerning relationships, love, and commitment. Because of a major decision by one of the main characters to justify a sexual relationship with a college friend while trying to also maintain a future relationship with her liberal fiance, the result is tremendous pain and suffering for everyone involved. This is especially true for the friend who eventually has to deal with the fact that he was very much misled. Leonore does an excellent job in making these complicated situations seeem real. Surprisingly, the story ends with tremendous hope and personal growth amid all the negativity. I put the book down feeling that life really is good. Congratulations, Leonore, on an excellent first novel.

A great deal happens in Apart From You, but it happens within the characters. The action consists of their growth and change as they deal with emotional and moral dilemmas. This is a subtle, finely crafted novel that will appeal to intelligent readers.

Years ago, a book like this probably would not have gotten published. But with the development of e-books and print-on-demand publishing, it's much easier to get your book in print. Anyone can probably be an author now. This book has no theme, and no character development, to speak of, and it certainly doesn't have a plot. My advice to the author is: "Don't quit your day job."

APART FROM YOU by Leonore Dvorkin is indeed a page turner. The author has created characters that grip the reader from start to finish. Although set in the 1960's, the reader will feel as though it is 2001. Leonore Dvorkin handles difficult subject matters such as loving two people at the same time, family estrangement, fidelity, and loyalty with the skill of a master novelist. I'm sure we'll see more of Leonore Dvorkin's work. Don't miss reading this one!
