“A true original, filled with humor, adventure and fun!”—RT Book Reviews

Zoe Smith might look like your average, ordinary elementary school librarian, but she’s about as far from normal as a girl can get. Because Zoe is descended from a line of superheroes … and as her twenty-fifth birthday approaches, she has to decide if she’s going to embrace her heritage (including all the wackiness that comes with X-ray vision and her extraordinary senses) or submit herself for mortalization and be that average, ordinary girl.

Considering how lousy she’s done so far on all the Council-imposed tests, chucking the whole superhero thing might be very best thing … especially when she realizes that sexy, private investigator George Bailey Taylor is more than a little interested in her—and he’s more than a little convinced that Zoe is one-hundred percent “the girl next-door”.

An ex-cop turned PI, George Bailey Taylor’s had one hell of a life being bounced around from foster home to foster home. All he wants now is a normal life with a normal wife in a normal neighborhood. The typical American dream—and when he meets Zoe Smith, he’s certain she’s the typical American girl. Except she does have an overprotective brother who seems able to appear and disappear at will. And a creepy cousin who’s always lurking about. And why does everyone in her family pretend to actually talk to the pet ferret?

With her super powers, Zoe can do just about anything … except make Taylor fall in love with her.

For that, they’re both going to need a different kind of magic …

Seriously loved this book. I wish I could give this 10 stars! Fabulous job, and this is not a genre I generally read.

This book was awesome. It was pretty funny. I mean klutzy heroines have to be at least somewhat entertaining. Nicely paced and sweet to the end.

great idea and enjoyed the story

Nice premise and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story start to finish. I even picked up another in the series (real book) and added this author to my list of goodies.

    Aphrodite's Kiss

Good easy read. I liked Zoe and Taylor a lot, didn't really care for any other characters for about 3/4 of the book.... Tessa, Deena, and Hale were pushy, overbearing, and somewhat selfish for my taste. Liked the action scenes! I'd probably read the others in this series.

    Fun read

Julie Kenner always delivers. An easy, fun read. Love all her books. The fantasy never gets in the way of a well written story.

The characters were endearing and the storyline was humorous and engaging.  A very fun, light romance and an entertaining read.  The only thing that bothered me was that the cover artwork has nothing to do with the story.  I try not to judge a book by it's cover, but this one does not do the story justice.

Funny, till it got sexy, then less funny...but still entertaining.

I've read a lot of books about halflings and super-powers and heightened abilities lately, with those books taking themselves very seriously and earnestly.

It was nice to read a book that was meant very tongue in cheek. Though it started off with a lot of humor, that did get overshadowed quickly when the heroine meets the hero, and the humor drains a bit from the pages to be replaced with how much her super-skin tingles, and how she tastes colors whenever Taylor is around.

However, it does feature a ferret side-kick,that acts like a ferret - which if you are into that sort of thing (I'm pro-ferret) I found a redeeming quality.

Superhero librarian? Yep. Crazy-hot PI with an embedded bullet?

Superhero librarian? Yep. Crazy-hot PI with an embedded bullet? Yes, please. A super-hot, overprotective older brother with invisi-sneezes and a talking ferret? Yes! Yes! Yes!

Finally a book where the heroine could kick the hero's ass!

Zoe is fast approaching her 25th birthdy, which means she has to decide whether to go with her mortal half or her superhero half. Unfortunately there are pros and cons of each:

    Pros of becoming a full-superhero/protector:
      - Zoe can keep her powers.
      - She'll be closer to her father and brother
      - She'll become a protector of mortals

    Cons:
      - No mortal friends
      - has to tell her mother what she is
      - she'll have to forget about Taylor.

    Pros of becoming fully mortal:
      - She won't have to say goodbye to her mother
      - Zoe can keep Taylor and fall in love
      - She can keep her crazy best friend.

    Cons:
      - Her memories of what/who she is will be wiped.
      - She will have no contact (or memories) of her brother and father
      - No more superpowers.

Though this book is a modern twist on old mythology, it is creative, fresh, and interesting. Zoe is funny and quirky whereas Taylor is sweet, charming, and protective. The characters are fun and the pages fly by.

Definitely recommended for those of you who enjoy romance, urban fantasy, and mythological elements. It was short, fun, and memorable!
