Overview

In this a much anticipated conclusion to the Apocalypse series, First Sergeant “Goose” Gander of the United States Army Rangers is in over his head, and he knows it. Trapped by the Rapture in the carnage of Middle Eastern shooting war, far from his wife and kid back home, he's living every day on the edge, afraid each moment might be his last, terrified that he'll never see the people he loves again. The war on the Syrian/Turkish border is heating up, and the opposition armies and the local warlords are skirmishing for power in a no-man's land filled with innocent victims that Goose hopes to protect.
Goose soon discovers elements within his own forces, fearful of his leadership, are determined to bring him down. With everybody gunning for him, Goose is going to need a miracle to pull off his mission. Even as he struggles to believe in the God of miracles, Goose is about to discover the power of redemption and the bulwark of pure faith. And as the Hand of God closes over him and he accepts salvation, Goose Gander will finally find the peace he seeks, even as the war-torn land around him explodes in violence.

Love the interplay between the characters. Became attached to them as we do with the characters in well written books.

This book was definitely worth the wait. The way Mel Odom takes you into the thoughts of the individual characters is a nice feature. It is simple and straight forward. I do get the impression that this was a book written because the fans wanted it and that it has ended. That is a shame, but I am glad we got a sort of closure. I would still like to see at least one more installment, but it appears Mr. Odom has gone onto other works. We are fortunate then that he did not completely abandon his fans.

This was a riveting story although a bit violent which is perfectly understandable in a war book. I don't have any military background but I was still right there in the field with First Sergeant Gander in Turkey and also right with his family at home on the military base in the USA. The emotions of the characters rang true, the mother who has lost her child but understands that it is the Tribulation and that her child is with God; and the soldier who is angry at the lost of his child and doesn't want to believe that he can no longer protect his family and especially his son even though he doesn't want to allow himself to think about it. Now he is in the midst of a war, can he trust those he has always trusted? Was his friend murdered because he was trying to convince the other soldiers that this was Tribulation and that they needed to make themselves right with God? Where will his path lead him, to or away from God? The author's character development is excellent and believable.

This is the fourth book in a series which is based on the Left Behind Series.

In the not too distant future, one third of the world¿s population disappeared including all children under the age of thirteen; US Army First Sergeant "Goose" Gander¿s son was one who vanished. Goose is with his Rangers unit in the Mideast trying to prevent Syria from conquering Turkey. The Syrians are making deep inroads as Captain Cal Remington and his squad cannot repel the invaders.

While protecting a supply train, he notices a fire and goes inside to rescue the two teens trapped. The convoy gets ambushed because the fire was a deliberate distraction. Goose gets the men to safety, but afterward Remington places him under house arrest. That is short lived as the Syrians arrive; Goose breaks out to help in the evacuation. However, he and two other men fall behind enemy lines with assassins everywhere targeting Goose while the enemy methodically tightens its noose.

This is the long awaited final tale in the Apocalypse Left Behind Military saga (see APOCALYPSE DAWN, APOCALYPSE CRUCIBLE and APOCALYPSE BURNING); fans will feel the trial and tribulations of waiting worth the time as APOCALYPSE UNLEASHED is an enthralling pulse pumping tale. Besides Goose looking cooked, his wife Meg at Fort Bragg and other dependents of the entrapped Rangers establish a support group. Readers will learn what the CIA knows and does, and what Carpathian plans andalso who obsesses over killing the hero and why. Fans will relish the tribulations military sidebar quartet as Goose running on empty is out of time.

The series is a wonderful one to read. It keeps you captive from start to finish. I am looking forward to the finish of the series.

It's hard to post anything resembling a serious assessment of a book like this when so much is predicated on one actually believing that the world really is about to be plunged into the "End Times"--something that hundreds of disparate groups and religions have claimed for literally thousands of years. Today, American evangelicals have taken up the belief with new fervor, and savvy publishers have been more than happy to cater to them. Well, if you firmly believe that the end is near, then I suppose you will think this action-packed offshoot of the Left Behind series is utterly brilliant. If, on the other hand, you are a rational being looking for a good read, you will no doubt see these books for the third rate, poorly written, contrived, cliched, hackneyed trash that they are.
