All Music Guide - Steve Leggett
Created in 1955, Rural Rhythm Records has released hundreds of classic sessions by bluegrass and country artists like Don Reno, Red Smiley, Mac Wiseman, Vassar Clements, Hylo Brown, J.E. Mainer, and many others, and the label has repackaged these sides in all sorts of combinations for the digital age. Here Rural Rhythm has combined some of the best five-string banjo tracks in its catalog to make a bright, breezy, and generous 30-track sampler. Among the highlights are Don Reno's "Limehouse Blues" and Mac Martin's version of "Sugar in the Gourd," but most everything here is cut from the same basic modern bluegrass template.
