Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The lesson in addition helps young kids count from one to five as the gather apples to fill an empty basket. The boy and girl try a variety of techniques to collect the apples. They knock one down with a stick. They help each other gain enough height to reach them and then get lucky when one falls off the tree. The pictures are bright, bold and full of humor. When a full-page flap is lifted up it shows the Arabic numeral and a picture of the basket with the appropriate number of whole apples in it. A companion book is Apples Away! 2003, Grosset & Dunlap/Penguin Putnam,
