Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Lydia Di Dio Schafer, PhD (Medical College of Ohio)
Description: This book is an outline of the major disease processes presented in a user friendly, concise format.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an outline review to assist the new physician assistant (PA) in exam preparation.
Audience: This book will appeal to recent PA graduates studying for certification. The editors are national leaders in this field, and are therefore credible authorities on this subject.
Features: Major disease areas or organ sysyems are covered, and salient clinical features, diagnoses, and treatments are outlined, enabling content review for studying. The presentation of material is non-threatening or overwhelming; therefore, students will be excited to use this as a review guideline. This book is well written and comprehensive. One shortcoming is that more illustrations could have been provided to enhance and supplement the material.
Assessment: A wide range of diseases and conditions are covered in this excellent overview and quick reference. A great general knowledge pool is provided. As a review book, I would assess it as potentially one of the "top picks" of students looking to be successful with their certification on a first time try.
