Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This 1938 Hercule Poirot mystery is not one of Christie's best, but Hugh Fraser's engaging reading makes the time pass pleasantly. Vacationing in Jerusalem, the Belgian detective encounters the Boyntons, a wealthy American family dominated by its tyrannical matriarch. When the old lady suddenly dies on an excursion to the ruins at Petra in Jordan, her children come under suspicion. As usual with Christie's tales, there are romantic complications among the tourists as well. Except for Dr. Girard, a famous French psychiatrist, the characters are rather bland, with the various Boyntons not that differentiated from one another. Christie also does surprisingly little with the Middle East setting. Fraser, best known as Captain Hastings in the televised versions of the Poirot stories, gives his usual sympathetic reading, making the protagonists seem to have greater depth. For Fraser's efforts alone, this is recommended for popular collections.-Michael Adams, CUNY Graduate Ctr. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
The Observer (UK)
“Twice as brilliant as Death on the Nile, which was entirely brilliant.”
Val McDermid
“The quickness of Christie’s hand still continues to deceive our eyes.”

    a good mystery

Appointment with Death is a very interesting mystery story and I thought it was quite enjoyable. The book started out slowly and was confusing, but towards the middle, it picked up and really became a page-turner. The book is a bit hard to understand, but I recommend it if you like complicated mysteries with unexpected endings. Mrs. Boynton. A large, Buddha resembling women, that was mentally controlling her family. She had decided that she and her family should go on a trip to Petra, where they where surrounded by towering red cliffs. These where the last things Mrs. Boynton ever saw. Somehow, she had died. With only 24 hours to solve this case, and the only evidence being a tiny puncture mark on her arm, it's up to you to find out how Mrs. Boynton suddenly died. Other Agatha Christie books are also excellent, and they are all very good reads. The beginning of this book really gives you a sense of foreshadowing, and that the story was slowly coming to its climax, then boom! One of the main characters dies. "You see, don't you, that she's got to be killed?" Beside the fact that it was a bit hard to understand, I really enjoyed this novel. But who killed Mrs. Boynton, its up to you to find out.

The book 'Appointment With Death' is a great book that emphases on analyzisng each character and having the story told in third- person omniscient. This book is filled with excitement every step of the way.Once you start this book you cant put it down. At first the book might start off confusing but and the middle its where you can't put it down. Sarah one of the main character tries to help the Boynton's children but soon finds out it would be hard to help them. When the sudden death of Mrs.Boynton gave a huge Suspension of the family since Mrs.Boynton was mentally controlling her family. This book is a great book and you have to read it to find the cause of death and who really killed Mrs.Boynton.Was it the family or the ladies on the trip?Read it to find out!!

    Bloody Brilliant

This was a good book but my favorite Agatha Christie novel is still 'And Then There Were None'. I figured out who the murderer was before they figured it out but I couldn't see a motive. So, even if you guess the killer, you may not guess the motive.
